The Cardinals’ top agenda will be stopping the Indians’ running attack and generating more yards of their own on the ground. Clark rushed for 73 yards in the loss to the Defenders. In two games, Montgomery collected 433 yards.

 

“We’re going to have to run the ball better than we did against Bryan Station,” Columbia said. “We need to control their running game and get off to a better start than we did against Bryan Station.”

 

Gooch said his team’s downfall has been an inability to get off to a good start in the second half.

“We have to play better in the third quarter and protect the football,” he said. “ Our special teams play has been very poor. We are very small up front and have a couple of key injuries right now. Our overall team speed is better than in the past, but still not where we need to be.”

As for his team’s preparation, Gooch said stopping Clark quarterback Andrew Dini and running back Chris Gipson will be a key. Dini threw for 122 yards and Gipson rushed for 57 in the Cards’ opening contest.

“We need to contain their speed and prepare for their quarterback,” Gooch said. “I have been impressed with him. I also like Gipson.”
