More later...

Congrats to CC. District wins are huge in their district. From a fans' perspective, at least The Old Guy did not have to wear his long johns today. I was getting worried about him during these games played in brutal weather.

Thanks for the concern and I wish this game were a seeding game, but alias it was just a game. The 35th district seeding game between CovCath and Cov Holy Cross will be on Tuesday April 28 at Cov Holy Cross

Neither team pitched their best today, although HC brought in Stewart to close out the seventh inning. CovCath found out that they have a rather good fourth starting pitcher to go along Ice, Nute, and PK and that young man is Junior Chris Gerwe. Gerwe went five innings giving up 2 runs today on six hits and a walk, and as per usual that walk scored one of the two runs.

The CovCath middle infield of SS Holocher and 2nd baseman Siemer turned two more double plays today with a 6-4-3 in the first and sixth innings. Folks that five DP's in the last three games and in High School baseball (against Conner, Boone and Holy Cross) that is outstanding defense. Congrats gentlemen...

The good: Getting a very good outing from your number four pitcher, and the defense of the middle infield.

The bad: Again far to many men left on base today (15). For the first time in a while Maile and Darner didn't have a rbi.

The ugly: How teams are pitching to Maile in regular season games. Today he was walked three times and was hit by the pitcher.

CovCath hitters.

Nutini 5 PA 1 hit (double) 2 runs scored 1 rbi 1 walk and 2 sb

Siemer 5 PA 2 runs scored 1 hit 2 rbi 1 walk 1 hbp and 2 sb

Maile 5 PA 1 run scored 3 walks and 1 hbp

Darner 4 PA 1 run scored 1 hit and 1 walk

Warning 1 PA 1 k

Isler 3 PA1 hit 1 rbi and 2 walks

Stayton 2 PA

Lafever 4 PA 1 hit (double) 2 rbi's 1 walk and 1 sac

Holocher 4 PA 1 hit 2 k's and 1 sb

Eggemeier 4 PA 1 run scored 2 hits

Martin 4 PA 1 run scored 1 sac 1 sb 1 cs and fc

CovCath pitching

Gerwe 1-0

Klein

Sounds like a good game, and a great outting for Gerwe. It's nice to see CovCath get a little more depth on their pitching.

While I understand that you think teams are pitching bad to Maile, I have been to most of the games aside from todays, but it seems like he is getting walks like the rest of them. I do not think they are intentionally walking our big hitters, as it looks like Maile, Darner and Isler had six walks combined today. I think it has more to do with those three having a good eye for balls and strikes and being selective and smart at the plate.

And if they were going to intentionally walk anyone at this point it would be Darner..only problem is if you walk him, you face Isler. If you walk Maile you face Darner who is a bigger threat at this point. Just seems we have some smart ball players at CovCath.

What is the CC record for most consecutive wins to start a season?

Didn't say they were walking Maile intentionally, but he is getting nothing at all to hit. In the last two games, Maile has been walked five times, HBP twice and has one hit in his nine Plate Appearances. Thats being on base 9 out of 10 times at the plate and in nine games, his OBP is close to 0.650...

Being given nothing to hit IMO is the same thing. If it is not hittable, it's either a very well placed strike, or a ball. So being given nothing=purposely being walked. I've seen it, and unfortunately a lot of the time it is the pitcher just not throwing well. And Maile knows the strike zone and does not swing at junk. Do I think it's a coincendence our best hitters get walked a lot? Eh probably not, but I don't think they are being given nothing..

Sat through the whole game, other than the double plays tuned by CCh kind of a so so game. CCH pitcher ok, HC pitchers had serios control problems. First game I went to this season and it felt good to see the young men out there giving there all. Good luck to both teams the rest of the season.
