What does Bardstown need to do to improve in 2009? What do they need to keep doing to be successful? Remember, please be constructive.

The Tigers platooned Keaton Hall and T.J. Downs at QB, with Downs taking most of the snaps late last year. He now graduates. Hall is a good athlete and has a good arm. Most everyone will agree the Tiger passing attack was much better on the whole last year. However, he has got to do a much better job taking care of the rock, and also had an annoying tendency to throw before he looked last season. We must remember that he took his sophomore year off, however, and I think an extra summer of tutelage by David Clark and less insecurity about the position should help.

 

Last season, the offensive line was completely and utterly virgin except for McMackin, and everybody returns this year. That experience in years past has translated for very good Tiger lines, and this year that should continue. Bardstown started 2 freshmen lineman last year.

 

The Tiger backfield will be very fast again. However, there is no way to replace Rashuan Phillips at fullback. The receiving corps is also talented.

 

Bardstown was exposed last year defensively. The experience of last year's crew returns, but until I see some game results I will not have any confidence that that has been shorn up.

 

Nevertheless, Bardstown played all of the big, big dogs last year and was in every game except John Hardin, until they got mangled by Monroe County. The Danville game went into the late 4th quarter. I expect us to compete with them again this year for the district crown, and the playoff run will then be a question of how well the defense does. I think we'll score points, the question will be how many will we allow?

I'm very interested to see how Ricky Harper has improved.
