6th Region Draw

Featured Replies

Wednesday, March 4

3:30 p.m. - Fairdale (18-10) vs. Western (11-14)

5 p.m. - Iroquois (19-7) vs. Central (13-14)

6:30 p.m. - Shawnee (14-14) vs. Doss (11-17)

8 p.m. -PRP (22-7) vs. Southern (16-12)

4 of the 8 teams have records of .500 or worse, whereas in the 7th region, all teams are above .500. Wonder why that is?

It looks like this year that any of the 7th region teams would be in the mix to win the 6th and Eastern, Ballard, and Jtown would be solid favorites in all games IMO!

Bullitt East is 19-10 lost in first round to Fairdale. Central started 0-8 while Coach Bibby gave the football players time off from state championship. Most of the schools in the 7th region double the enrollment in the 6th. PRP, Butler, and Southern are the only ones that play 6A football. Most of the teams in 6th are 4A or lower. Enrollment has dropped at a lot of schools in the 6th. I think that has made an impact.

I was not aware of this.

That makes sense but it is still a bit odd that the 6th is so down this year as they are usually on equal footing over the past few years.:idunno:

In terms of depth it has been this way for over a decade. In the mid-late 80s and early 90s, you could count on PRP, Fairdale, Central, and Doss all being very good. You throw in Valley and Butler at various times, and often 5 of the top 15 teams in the state were from the 6th. As the demographics of the metro area have changed with a migration to the Eastern part of the county, so has the balance of the regions. Today, PRP is the only team that is a consistent contender. Other schools seem to have some runs (i.e. Iroquois, DeSales, Fairdale) where they challenge for the regional title, but they are just as likely to be a second-tier power with a chance to pull an upset rather than being considered a serious contender.
