jbsaylor Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 I am from Rockcastle County. We have played Green and Jackson County. I promise you if Rock is a top 20 team then Simon Kenton, Lincoln County, and Casey County should definitely be in the top 20. It seems to me the 12th region in particular struggles to get respect. In my opinion Lincoln County should be in the top 10 based on their schedule and beating us at home. If you add Southwestern and Wayne County , both of whom can beat anybody on a given night, the 12 region is one of the top 3-4 in the state. Just my opinion of course !!!
liveblue4ever Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 I still dont understand how Simon Kenton cannot be ranked.
mcpapa Posted February 3, 2009 Author Posted February 3, 2009 I tried to explain this phenomenon in the Boys' AP thread. Please bear in mind that the team names are reflective of boys' squads, but the reasoning as to why some teams are ranked ahead of others in the AP still apply. Substitute Simon Kenton or Lincoln county for Clark County; and hopefully what I tried to say in the boys forum makes sense over here. http://www.bluegrasspreps.com/showthread.php?t=174599 I pay zero attention to the "1-point getters". Not that they're not good teams, but someone may have an agenda to get a team some face time. You have to remember that the AP only allows for folks to vote for 10 teams. We saw on another thread that Ryan Ernst voted Boone County 10th on his ballot. Hence, their single point, as obviously no one else had them on their list. Which can explain why teams like Boone County, Hazard, Bowling Green, etc. appear on the list. Maybe all 16 voters would have had Clark County, for example, 11th on their list. But 11th and $1.89 gets you a gallon of gas here in Maysville. If you ask me, Clark County has actually solidified their spot in the Top 20 by winning 9 of their last 10, the last being a 10-point win over Scott.

I understand but it still is a hard sale to make when a team like Simon Kenton has beat two of the top twenty and sent two others away happy to get out of the gym. I guess they still have to prove it in the crunch and IMO they will make good noise through tournament(s) time. Wish the best of luck to the Lady Pioneers!
