Let me understand everything. You saying the 8th Graders, Freshman and Sophomores that are playing Varsity have that?

You seem to have a past knowledge of Boyd County basketball. I wanna ask you a question. Can you give me a example or remember a time where Boyd had a 8th Grader or Freshman playing Varsity minutes? Not saying it is wrong, just cant ever remember it happening? What about dressing Juniors that only play JV and no varsity time? Seems Boyd has definetly changed.

 

Don't ever remember Boyd Co. basketball being as far down as its been. Justin Moore was a freshman playing varisity and so was Billy Blanton. Maybe not a 8th grader but when your enrollment goes from 1200 kids to 900, desperate times require desperate measures.

I did forget about Billie Blanton playing that young. Dont recall Justin playing up, but Boyd was kinda down when both these players played as well.

No, I'm just saying that's how you develop younger talent by pulling them up with older kids to try to develop some of those qualities, or sometimes show them what you don't want in a player.

Maybe so. Does this mean they are getting the present 6th Graders ready to take their spots when they get to be Juniors/Seniors? That is the only way this process will work. Kinda like the system that Boyd Co Baseball has used.

Economy, loss of jobs, moving to other area schools, bad press (gsa), who knows. All I know is if the pride is going to come back into this program it does not make any difference if your playing 8th, 9th , 10th, 11th, or Srs.,it has to start somewhere. Boyd Co. youth program is in the shambles, most of the young talent can't get into a gym to practice because of some other function. Too many things going on at the schools to deal with a basketball problem. No child left behind to the extreme has left all the good athletes behind because we are worried about hurting little johnny's feelings, who probably does'nt want to play basketball anyway, but maybe has another thing he is better at but no other oppurtunities are offered to him or no one even takes the time to ask. And no, I am no expert just very attached to Boyd Co. Basketball.

I don't know about Baseball other than the program has been pretty successful. Do they allow 6th graders to play? Even better than that when can you try out, at what grade level.

Billy Blanton and Justin Moore did play as freshman but as stated before those were some lean years for the lions. You would have to go back to Frank Lee to find a freshman that mad an impact on a good team.
