Josh Kays hit a three with 3 seconds to play to complete a comeback from 16 points down and make Artie Braden's Nelson County debut a successful one. Kays had 15 points to lead all scorers, 11 of them coming after halftime.

 

Chris Richard had a big game for Southern, with 13 points, 14 boards, 4 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks. Southern outrebounded Nelson 45-33, but 26 percent second half shooting doomed the Trojans.

By the way, this game was played at John Hardin in the Army Bulldog Classic. Until this year, Artie Braden was the only coach in John Hardin history, so the win was probably extra-sweet for him to win on his old home floor.

They sure looked a lot better than I expected. They had a lot of chances to fold up, but hung in and kept playing D. I think the NC folks are going to be very pleased with the Artie Braden era.
