Mercer County Titans issues

Featured Replies

I did not get to go to the Mercer\Madison Central game Saturday night but was shocked to hear the score (25-0) and then to read in the paper and I quote "We are not a team that is going to score a lot of points".

I understood that Mercer County strength this year would be their line and their seniors. Throw in the fact that not only are they a senior dominated line with an all senior backfield, some of the kids started on the state championship team.

I would be interested to hear from some of the fans that went to the game what they think the issues are, if any.

Please be constructive.

Mercer Co. is a big, physical team. A couple of turnovers hurt them in this game. One was at the Madison Central 2 yard line. Mercer Co. will be OK. They and Pulaski Co. are both 0-1 and looking for that first win Friday Night.

Mercer is very one dimensional right now. When MC loaded up with 8 in the box, they still would not throw until they got behind.

Mercer was inside the Central 20 three times in the first half and came away with no points. They outgained MC 137yds to 68 yds in the first half, but could not score. That was what killed them. They have to make the most of the red zone opportunities. After the first half, MC just packed the box daring them to throw and they could not do it effectively. Their line is pretty good, but they are going to have to throw the ball at least a little bit to open up some space for the running game. The turnovers are what killed them.
