LCA/Green Co. Scrimmage

Featured Replies

I was able to watch part of the LCA/Green Co. scrimmage.

The first four series were 10 plays each.

LCA scored 3 times

Green scored 2 times

Then they went to a game format for 2 series each.

It was 1-1

After that they ran the freshman/JV squads at each other, and I had to go.

Observations:

-LCA is still a pass-oriented team (duh), using that to open up the run (which it does).

-LCA's Defense is farther along than I expected them to be.

-Green Co. has some guys that can FLY.

-#4 for Green is extremely tough.

Now for the sad news.

Senior Tackle Josh Ballard went down in the first series with what appears to be a career ending knee injury.

Josh will have an MRI done (today, I believe), and I hope and pray we are wrong.

Josh is 6'3", 282 lbs., and has been faithfully working for years to become a starter.

Which team does Josh play for?

Bluto, prayers are going out from the Ramblers here in Raceland for Josh Ballard. Please keep us posted.

LCA

I had a nice EndzoneEyeCam of this scrimmage. Both teams are extremely tough and should have great seasons. Here is exactly what I saw: The Eagles of LCA got off to a great start scoring 3 times in the first series of 10 plays. Green County however scored 1 time in the first 10 plays. The second series was different as the Dragons began to settle in and control the tempo. The Dragons gapped big runs on the Eagles eventually scoring 2 more TDs during the second set of 10 plays. The third series saw the Eagles scoring once while the Dragons tacked on two more scores.

With a break taking place to let the young guys play, the 1's stood at Green County with 5 touchdowns to Lex. Christian's 4.

The JV units took the field with great fire. It did not take long for the JV unit from Green County to get on the board. The Dragons made this period an onslaught as they scored numerous times on the ground as well as in the air. Some very solid Freshmen/Sophomores for the Dragon squad. This period became a little embarrassing for the Eagles as it closed with the Dragons scoring 13 touchdowns and the Eagles going scoreless.

As the format changed a little, the 1s took to hitting once again. The play was a 4 down game type scrimmage that saw some interesting things happen. The running backs from Green County seem to have a different gear in open field. The Eagles went back to the air but was only able to capitalize on one more score. The Dragons however saw the endzone 2 more times as well as many more gapping holes that picked up large gains. Ending the 1's series overall at 7 - 5 in favor of the Green County Dragons.

Overall I was real impressed with both teams once everyone settle in. I didn't know exactly what to expect from the Dragons from Green County because of not knowing much about them. However, they have 3-4 really good backs, a good quarterback, and as couple good recievers on offense. On defense, #81 stood out to me as well as #4 and the freshman linebacker. On the Eagles side of the ball, #7 at QB, #30 at running back, and #1 at reciever are all very good players. I expect the Eagles to contend in Class 1A for the state title. Both of these teams could very well be seen in December playing for the State Championship of their class. I was overall impressed by what I seen from the EndzoneEyeCam !

My heart and prayers go out to the LCA lineman (Josh Ballard) who seems to have suffered a knee injury that could end his season at such an early stage.

GOD BLESS BOTH TEAMS !!! :thumb:

Thanks for the detailed summary. Your count is probably more reliable than mine, as I was talking to a lot of parents!

Welcome to BGP, EndzoneEyeCam!

Thank you much BLUTO. What a sight. Nothing better than talking about the greatest sport known to man.....especially High School Football. :thumb:

That is a great summary, EEC. It sounds as if Green County may be a force this year.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is the significance of his avatar?

I couldn't believe it. I'm guessing there were about 300 people there (besides players).

THAT is a far cry from the early days of the program, when we had maybe 18-20 kids out for the team!! What a pleasant sight this was!

Forgive my ignorance, but what is the significance of his avatar?

It's the cover of "Friday Night Lights". A pretty good movie for football fans.

Yes my avatar is the cover of Friday Night Lights. I thought it was significant for this sight and what I like to discus and cover. In my opinion, one of the top 5 football movies ever made. Some may disagree.

As far as the scrimmage at LCA, it was great to see all the fans there to watch. There is a lot of support for both teams and both seem to always travel well. I think expectations for both of these programs are really high for the 2008 season. After what I seen, both could eventually be playing for the state titles in their respective class. Players also seem to get along and helped each other. Nothing like the sight of all of them joining hands at the end for the Lords Prayer ! Good luck to both the Dragons and the Eagles.:thumb:

Check out some pictures from the scrimmage on LCA's website.
