Who all will be attending? Scrimmage is at Prestonsburg, starts at 6:30 p.m.

 

I suppose they'll run the 10 plays offense and 10 defense.

Prestonsburg looked really good passing the ball, didn't do to well when they ran between the tackles but then they ran the ball to the outside they picked up major yards each time. Craynon & Setser stood out from the rest of the running backs their. Pburg's Austin Gearheart was the best receiver their today, IMO. Gearheart caught 3 touchdowns and picked off Clay County's Lewis for a touchdown.

 

Clay County's quarterback, Zach Lewis is a stud! It really surprised me how accurate he really was on the shorts passes and the deep ball. Their defense was pretty good but couldn't stop Pburg's Craynon or Setser.

 

Hazard struggled the most out of the the 3. The Bulldogs just couldn't move the ball that well on offense and couldn't stop the pass on defense, although they did well against the run. Hazard has a few more kinks to work out.

I guess I shouldn't comment because I wasn't there, but didn't Clay score a bunch of times? If scores had been kept who would have scored the most & give up the least. When you say Clay "couldn't stop Pburg's Cranyon or Sester" does that mean they scored at will?

I was there and watching from a neutral position, Top to Bottom P-burg looked solid but Clay looked very good on Offense but had some breakdowns on Defense. Zack Lewis is the real Deal he puts the ball exactly where it needs to be, and he stays calm in the pocket. Clay's defense gave up some big plays which I suspect will get worked out over the next couple weeks, I got to watch Clay last year and I can honestly tell you this defense is head and shoulders above what it was last season at any point. If Clay Co. Defense can get aggressive and hit they'll be fine

 

I was shocked when Clay's entire D unit Rolled off the field and 11 new bodies came on for Offense.

What does this Clay County coach Arnett think he's doing trying to play 22 starters, doesn't he know that in the mountains you find your top 11 players and play them both ways.

 

No Joking P-Burg Hazard and Clay County should all have great seasons this year, they all looked good.

How did Clay look under the direction of their new Coach?

This was a difficult scrimmage to make head to head comparisons of all three teams. Hazard and Clay Co. are pass-oriented, while P-burg is run-oriented. Overall, though, the offenses of each team was ahead of the defenses.

 

The best looking drive was Clay's initial possession vs. P-burg's defense. They hit quick slants all the way down the field while the defense looked back on their heels. Though to be fair, Prestonsburg's defense were tired, having been on the field 20 minutes against Hazard, and the Bulldogs did not run that style of passsing game.

 

 

Hazard:

 

- Due to the QB's being off-limits, Olinger couldn't run downfield. Of the three teams, this hurt the Bulldogs most because Hazard's offense is designed around him. They moved the ball fairly well with a short passing game, however.

 

Clay Co.:

 

- Very impressed with the QB. Hit receivers in stride with a number of quick slants (especially on 1st offensive set). Very accurate with a strong arm. Too many dropped passes by receivers. The running game looked serviceable. The RB (Clay ran out of the shotgun with one RB) was strong and created a number of tough yards on his own.

 

Prestonsburg:

 

- Consistantly made good yardage on sweeps and tosses on inside play fakes. Also, ran a few good looking flanker screens. The QB threw a number of good balls, but also had a few get away from him. Gearheart (#7) seemed to catch everything thrown his way.

 

 

Overall, it was a good workout for all three teams.

When Clay County had a lot of field infront of them on offense neither Prestonsburg or Hazard could slow them down but when they got into the redzone it seemed like they struggled to score. But I'd say that Clay County scored the most touchdowns off all the teams, but like oneijoe said, Prestonsburg & Hazard were both wore down when Clay County went up against Hazard & Pburg's defense.

Offensive strengths...

 

Hazard has a duel-threat quarterback and quarterbacks were not allowed to be touched by any defenses so the qb's weren't allowed to scramble either. That took a lot away from Hazard's offense, but when they ran screens to their back and Michael Campbell was lead blocking for him then they were going to be picking up some yards.

 

Defensive weakness...

 

Hazard's defense struggled against the pass all night against Pburg & Clay County. I heard that they had two starters out, they may have hurt them a little bit but not much. Hazard done a really good job containing the run though.
