2008 Bracken County

Featured Replies

The Polar Bears have won 2 games over the last 4 years and I believe are 5-48 since starting a varsity program in 2003. Would be pleasantly surprised if they were to win 1 or 2 over the next 2 years also. Was wondering if anyone on the boards went to a small county school with a record like this and at what point because of the high expense of football does a school either revert back to a JV schedule or put money into another sport like track and field(or God forbid, soccer)?

With any Varsity program just forming, it will take time to become competitive. The Coaching Staff and Players who are initially helping start the program, are laying the ground work for those to follow.

As for the cost, hopefully the program is generating enough through ticket sales, sponsors and booster efforts, to help fund this and other programs at Bracken County.

We started out varsity program back up in 1996 after a 12 year hiatus. 2006 gave us our first winning season and 2007 saw another winning season and our school's first ever play-off win. Before our current coach (Poynter) took over the program, we were in a 0-22 winless streak run. Even during that time, ticket sales for football games provided the largest percentage of financing for all athletic programs. Your program is still very young. Give it time to develop and hopefully other positive changes will be made.
