The 2008 KY High School Baseball Coaches Association, has announced the first and second team All-State and Coaching awards.

I found it odd that two players from the Second Region were named to the Second Team All-State, yet the region player of the year (Mark Roberts) was named honorable mention. And he was the only one from the region named honorable mention. I sure hope the region coaches took the time to vote because there are some glaring omissions from the list.

I'll go one better than that. Mr. Baseball, wasn't even his Region player of the Year.

Perhaps coaches are voting assuming some players will receive other accolades and this is a way, to recognize very good talent, with the same Region.

It's been said that there is a little give and take when giving these kids these honors. Not that it's right, but coaches do alot of positioning for their players. Zach Cox deserved Mr. Baseball. Several players on the second team are just as good, if not better than the 1st team, just depends who was making the noise in the room.

Here is food for thought....If a coach doesn't pay his coaching dues, to the KHSBCA, he can't vote.

Region players of the year are voted on by the region coaches (some of which do not even show up to the region tournament meeting). I know in our region that the 8 coaches that were playing in the region were present to vote along with the host school. So only 9 of the 17 teams had coaches that voted nominated players and voted on the region awards.

 

I believe that the all state team, Mr Baseball, and coach of the year is voted on by a committee of about 18 coaches from around the state.

Coaching dues can't be that much. Surely schools admin would pay the dues. What I'm hearing is that not all coaches vote? Doesn't seem a good/fair system.

Fees are only $30 per Coach. If you don't pay your fees, you can't vote and some Regions stipulate, can't nominate one of your own players.

Do you think the majority of coaches post stats about their teams performance? BGP is a good place to hear about players and their progress. Kudos to the two Trinity boys, Tyler Stephan and Andrew Deeds for making the 2nd team All State. Tyler will be a good pitcher in college and Deeds should do well under Coach Sorg at Morehead State.

Several of us do but not all. It would only help promote players, for teams like All-State and offer some data for discussion, consideration and comparison.
