Newport seems to be struggling with the hits this season but I'm sure it will come around. Newport's Shawn Klaas pitched a good game. The home plate umpire made an excellent call toward the end of the game. The ball was grounded toward first base and Swalbach made contact with the ball as it was passing over the outside of first base. Good positioning by the umpire helped him see that the ball clearly went into foul territory before Swalbach had contact with it. Newport gets their first win of the year. Newport has about three seniors on the team this year so I'm hoping that this young team can gain some experience and benefit from it for next season. But the talent that Newport has as of now will be ready for the challenge when the districts comes around.

I guess you could say that. Thing is this, they had a lot of opportunities and they let them get away. Newport IMO only needs to advantage of the opportunities more. They had some chances to advance runners and didn't. Villa's pitcher had a high kick in his delivery -- I myself would have had my runners going. But I'm not the coach so I can't justify why they didn't.

God forbid someone say that Villa might be improving and thats why their last 2 games have been good ones. I also think I heard that the pitcher for Newport was a lefty sometimes difficult to get a good jump on them.

Actually Villa's pitchers did a good job. Villa was afraid to take advantage of their opportunities. I don't know much about them but I would say that they played a good game.
