Newport / Highlands (Cancelled)

Featured Replies

Yes, it was cancelled. Guess where it was supposed to be played at? You've guess it -- Newport. By no means is it the schools fault, it is the city of Newport fault. Come on city officials, please get something done about this. Newport will be entering the All A classic next week and they've had little opportunity to get on a field. Yes, I understand the rain is a big factor but there has been a lot of times in the past years that the city would do everything possible to have those fields ready.

I remember back in the day (80's) when ole Wade, a big guy who was a custodian I think would be down there working on those fields to get em ready night and day. I dont remember his last name but he was a funny guy. He would shoo all the little kids off the fields both Football and Baseball to keep em in great condition.

Wade Cruse -- one of the best. Wade will do anything that is asked of him. The day that man retires, Newport schools should declare a holiday within the school system for all the work he has done.

The sad part is that the city has control of the baseball fields, both the stadium by the school and the fields on the hill. You know gryche11, I just don't get it, I mean it seemed like the city was headed in the right direction with their recreation department. They had one of the best recreation directors in many years in place. A formal Newport student named Nick Rouse, Nick did so much for the recreation department. IMO, Nick knew what the city's children needed. The city went out and got the funding for renovations of the fields and overall facilities of the area. The city workers were trained with the proper methods to keep the fields in top notch. Maybe the city will get a chance evaluate the losses of the recreation department. Now, I do know that the city has had some financial issues so I do understand that issue. I just hope they can clear the financial issues up and revamp the recreation development again. Good Luck city officials, the future voters are counting on you.
