Article about Holmes leading up to their game...

Featured Replies

From Ryan Ernst of Ky Enquirer..

A year ago this week, the Holmes boys' basketball team was just another squad on the Sweet Sixteen bracket. Its statewide rankings were not impressive. Its 23-9 record was tied for the worst in the field.

Little did the rest of the state know that the Bulldogs were much, much better than their rankings and record.

Now, 12 months after they reached the state semifinals, the Bulldogs are back at Rupp Arena. And this time they find themselves in an odd position for a Northern Kentucky team: They enter the Sweet Sixteen, which begins today, as one of the tournament favorites.

"There's more pressure now," said Holmes senior Terrence Clark. "We made a name for ourselves last year, and now a whole lot of people are watching us to see what we'll do this time around."

Holmes, which is scheduled to play Bardstown at 8 p.m. today in the tournament's first round, has plenty going for it in its return trip. The Bulldogs (31-2) have the best record in the field. And according to The (Louisville) Courier-Journal's statewide Litkenhous Rankings, they're the third-best team in the field.

"I didn't realize that. I knew we were up there," said Holmes coach David Henley. "That stuff doesn't mean a whole lot when you're out there on the floor. But I'd rather be third in the rankings than 16th."

It's worth noting that Bardstown, the Bulldogs' first-round opponent, is ranked 16th. If the Bulldogs get past the Tigers, they'll play either Jeffersontown or Paintsville in the quarterfinals. Another victory would put them in Saturday morning's semifinals, probably against top-ranked Lexington Catholic. The winner probably would face second-ranked Mason County on Saturday night for the title.

Me and some buddies down here at UK are going to go to watch them tonight after our classes are over, we're hoping the 9th region represents well. Does anyone know if we can buy tickets at a window for tonights game or will we have to buy them from scalpers?

You can get them at a window.

Thats what we had heard, thanks Eta. Do you know what the cost is by any chance?

Go Dogs. Bring another title home to NKY.

No problem, I think it's 11 at the window. But that is good for all sessions, so if you wanna get there earlier than the Holmes game you can catch a few more games.
