Bardstown 72 Taylor Co. 66 (5th QF)

Featured Replies

Hard-fought, nip-and-tuck game. Bardstown got off to a quick start and had a couple of double-digit leads, but the Cardinals just kept clawing their way back and were lights out behind the arc in the 2nd half, and even took a 1-pt. lead late in the 3rd. Tigers pulled away at the start of the 4th and held on for the win.

Chris Cox had 20 for Taylor Co., including 6 3-pointers. Leonard Macon added 16 and had a monster rebounding and blocked shot night.

Korey Hall had 25 for the Tigers, including 6 3's and 7 of 8 free throws down the stretch. Jordan Hickman added 22, almost all in the second half. Uncharacteristically, Bardstown's Demarco Phillips was not a factor.

Tigers advance to Monday's 5th Region semifinal against Elizabethtown, a winner tonight over Green Co. It will be a rematch of the instant classic 2006 5th Region final.

Way to steal my thunder, dude. :irked:

In all seriousness, this was a pretty darned good game.

Corey Hall played great. Couldn't miss in the first half, and couldn't miss down the stretch. He also had five assists to boot. Hickman had nine boards, four assists and two steals to go with his 24. Hickman actually did most of his scoring damage in the first half, with 14. Hall had 15 in the first half, all on threes.

Bardstown led 9-2 and 12-4 early, and never trailed after that. The Tigers led by 12 on a couple of occasions, including at 56-44 with about 7:00 to play. Taylor came up with an 11-2 run however, and got as close as 58-57 and 60-59, but could never get a lead.

Hall drilled a three with 2:00 to play to stretch the Bardstown lead back out to 63-59, then Logan Edelen scored on a runout to make it 65-59, and TC never got within five after that.

Macon played a very strong game, and really frustrated the Tigers who looked inside for scoring (except Logan Edelen, interestingly enough). He ended up with 16 points, 13 boards, five blocks and three assists. I did feel like TC got away from him for long stretches in the second half on offense. Josh Gumm also had 16 for the Cardinals.

The stat sheet says Chase Cox was 6-of-15 on threes, but it sure seems like he hit a lot more.

Bardstown forced 13 turnovers while giving it up only six times, which was a big key that might be overlooked.

Bardstown faces E'town in the second semifinal Monday at Hart Co. Central Hardin faces Adair Co. in the first semifinal.

Bardstown has alot of weapons to think Hall and Hickman had big scoring night but Both Phillips boys and Edelen didn't have too. Bardstown keep up the good work and get ready for E-town and continue to make us proud.

I'm not sure what you mean Tiger8 about part of your comment???? You need to give credit where credit is due. The team concept has been the outstanding thing about the Tiger team this year. They have "Gotten It". Hall & Hickman had a great game! Hall was HOTTTT! Rashaun Phillips did a great job of stopping Macon. But when Macon went nuts the third quarter, big man Logan Edelen was there to neutralize him! It was good to see him back on both feet! This was not one of Demarco Phillips' best game, but he has made up for that when the Tigers need him. He and Damien Edelen have really become stand-out players this year. It will be a fun 2008-2009 season. Hat's off to the Bardstown student section. They are awesome to watch! It is good to see them taking the high road and having fun. They don't have to attack the other players and fans verbally to cheer their team on. Congrats Coach Goode! GOOD LUCK Monday!

You are exactly right about all of this except for the part about slowing or stopping Macon. Macon abused the Tigers on the boards and they are going to have to handle big men better to advance further. However, Bardstown is like UofL in that you don't know from night to night whom the star will be so they are dangerous in that respect.

Something I've noticed in a few games where BHS has gone up against bigger post players is that they've done a good job of shuttling fresh bodies in and out to throw at the big kids and wear them out. My initial assessment about the fourth quarter w/re to Macon was incomplete. Yes, they got away from him, but part of that was because Macon got tired and wasn't as quick off his feet late.

Ballou of Adair Co. and Day of Pineville are both two quality big men who had trouble late in the game because of the three-headed center the Tigers threw at them with R. Phillips, D. Edelen and L. Edelen.

Hearsay, you would've loved Logan Edelen's two buckets on Macon. His exaggerated head fakes were absolutely classic; the same stuff I used to use on the pick-up courts to keep my shot from getting sent into the upper decks.

Welcome to BGP, by the way. Nice to have a few more folks talking about the 5th Region-area teams. :thumb:

Thanks for the Welcome! It has been a great year for Bardstown Sports and I have enjoyed watching the outstanding players they have come against in the 5th Region. Good luck to Nelson County girls tonight (If they can play due to the weather) and nice to be added in with such good company. I'm sure I will learn a thing or two from you seasoned "Posters".

I have this really cool image in my head of you streaking down the court, giving a head fake, and dunking from the free throw line a la Michael Jordan.

I probably didn't get a good fell since I wasn't there, but WBRT was pretty emphatic about the number of rebounds Macon was getting and the number of shots he was swatting away.

I tell you what — download that image to a DVD and drop it by the office. That's an image of myself I'd love to have!

In reality, it would be more like a few head fakes followed by a jump hook or a fadeaway …

Kenny was on point with that. Macon was outstanding on the blocks.

Good win for the Tigers over their cross-town rival.

What I was saying is Bardstown always plays good team defense but any given night they can be lead in scoring by differant people. Got 47 from Hall/Hickman this game and the next might be Hall/Phillips thats what makes Bardstown so hard to defend.
