They were the pride of Maysville. Fifty years ago, the Maysville High School baseball team rode the strong left arm of star pitcher Allen Smith to the 1958 Kentucky schoolboy championship, the first and only Maysville team to win that title.

 

The Bulldogs were more than a good baseball team. They were social pioneers as well, even though most of the teenagers didn't realize it at the time.

 

Members of that team will be reunited Friday and honored during halftime of a basketball game at Mason County High School, the one-time rival now entrusted with preserving the MHS heritage.
