Gainesville vs Scott Co. Predictions

Featured Replies

9:00 Semifinal of Toyota Classic, game will be on internet broadcast, http://www.toyotaclassic.com. Gainesville Coach Tony Wise is SCHS Alum and Georgetown College Grad, son of the Hall of Famer Jack Wise. Should be a shoot out at the "Birds Nest".

Scott Co is a strange team to watch. All the talent in the world, but their guard play could end up costing them a trip to Rupp. But at the same time their guard play could be a key to them getting to Rupp.

I think at home, they will win this, but it wouldn't shock me at all if they lost. They have played a brutal schedule, but even with an average schedule, they would still lose their fair share of games.

Seeing them at Beach Ball Classic and then following their games in the Florida tournament and then seeing them in person against Mason Co.

Their guard, #14 Guyn, is very erratic at times. There are times down the court when he looks amazing and other times when he is completely out of control.

If he tries to do too much, he could end up costing his team in the 11th region tournament or Rupp if they got that far. BUT if he plays within himself and the way he is capable, they could continue to win and go deep in the tournament.

This is the determining factor as to whether the Cardinals make it to Rupp. Don't see it happening, Guyn is not Bud Mackey nor will he ever be no matter how much the Cardinal contingent thinks he will be. He needs to learn to play within himself to HELP his team, all he is doing now is HURTING them. Reference Bryan Station game. Hope the Cardinals can get it together, however, an aggressive press will give them fits come tournament time due to shotty guard play.

Mason did not have an "agressive" press which may have been the reason SC was the victor, Not sure if Portwood is going to be able to handle pressure at point either, if SC is going to make a title run they need Portwood as a shooter IMO. I look to see the 8th Grader taking over the PG spot by Tourney time.....a bold prediction.

Ge'lawn Guyn was learning the point this year! Now Coach Hicks has moved him to the two! Much better move, had 16 points last game and only one turnover. He will be ok, remember just a sophmore. With two more years to go. Plus no one is a Bud Mackey or a Matt Walls. The only thing you can be is yourself.:argue:

I think SC may possibly look at putting in a different Press Offense with current guard situation next time they face Station's Full Court Pressure, not sure if any of the "cards" they hold are capable of penetrating those traps!

Scott Co. 70-67.

Did they not make you a fan the other night, how did you know I bleed defender green:thumb: Predictions are just that....predictions, bottom line someone needs to step up at PG for the Cards, that is evident to all fans. I'll take the Cardinals by Five, no doubt it will be an exciting night!

Scott Co. teams since 98/99 have had the most talent in the state. That year the Cards had two transfer stars in Jones and Hundley (I think both kids won Mr. Basketball Jones-98/99 and Hundley-99/00). That was one of the best teams of all time in the state of Kentucky.

Just to pat myself on the back I made the statement more than once on BGP even before the season & back in the summer - PG! PG! PG!, Leadership is where Scott Co will be hurting.
