In addition, the regional winner and runnerup will advance to the state tournament along with the top 4 individual finishers NOT on the regional winner or runnerup.

Looks more geographically correct. You don't have regions that go from Wayne Co. to Mason Co. anymore! What a concept!

I was really surprised they stayed with the regional champ and runnerup.

I was too, I was hoping for more individuals in the State tourney since golf is an individual sport pretty much anyways!

Disagree and it is as much team as it is individual, at least at my school.

We talk about the team winning and developing a team more than one individual winner. The players get that sense of team and learn that lesson that sports is supposed to teach on teamwork, supporting each other, etc.

If they go to 10 individuals, you would see a lot less teams being developed and the concentration move to getting one person to state rather than trying to develop a team.

The two spots for the team helps keep that spotlight on what team sports are supposed to be about.

I understand all that, but it isn't fair to the golfers in some of the areas that don't have as many golfers as most do. If you only have 1 or 2 good golfers or even great golfers, the other 3 on the team will not allow the "TEAM" to go any farther than the regional tourney. I think that some of the really good golfers deserve a chance at the state tourney and if they took more individuals this would help that situation. What other sport sends the 2nd place team in the region to a state tourney??? If you don't win your region as a team you shouldn't get to go as a team. This is just my opinion, but we should have 11 teams at state and the rest individuals. I can see some of the schools gripes with it, but that is just how I personally feel about the situation.
