Start of the 4th quarter, Team A is in the bonus and is throwing in the ball at the division line to start the quarter. A1 gets ball in their back court and breaks towards Team B's basket(wrong way). As A1 goes to shoot a layup at Team B's basket, B1 fouls A1 in the act of shooting, but before the ball goes in.

Master of the Hardwood, You must be a basketball official to come up with such a question. In my openion in question No. 1 You would count the basket for team B, and shoot 1 shot foul a team A basket.

In Question No. 2 You would shoot 2 foul shots at team a basket.

1. No basket. Ball is dead at time of the foul. Shoot the bonus.

 

2. Shoot the bonus.

The key is, you cannot attempt a shot at the wrong basket. Yes, you can score for the other team, but it is not an attempted shot--therefore you cannot be fouled in the act of shooting. the bonus answer would be correct, as the ball becomes dead at the time of the foul. By this same token, you cannot score a three for the other team--it would only count two no matter where it was thrown from.

CSHS81 and 16th62nd are both correct in saying that the ball is dead when the foul is comitted because you can not attempt a shot at the other teams basket. Also correct on the 3 pt shot attempt from an opponents basket would also just count as 2 pts. If the horn would sound before the shot goes in, you would have no points allowed, because it's not a shot.
