Before this season, Newport Central Catholic junior quarterback Robby Kues (pronounced "Keys") hadn't thrown a pass in a varsity football game.

Last year, Kues played defensive back and at receiver. That changed after his coaches got a glimpse of him at quarterback when he lined as the scout team's QB.

 

"We thought he had the ability to be a quarterback so we worked him really hard over the summer," said Newport Catholic head coach Bob Schneider. "He is a very quick learner. He is an intelligent young man and he is very calm, doesn't get rattled at all. So we thought he had a chance to be a good quarterback and he certainly has turned out to be one."

 

Kues hasn't just been good this season, he's been one of area's best.

"Rock Star" Robbie has been a tremendous "find" for Uncle Bob & Co. He may want to also look at his kicker, Chris Grosser, at wide-out...he & Robbie used to terrorize the FTJFL as evil green-teamers!
