Delagates Adopt Later Start-Up Proposal

Featured Replies

Proposition 7 (Changes start for football practice in Pads to August 1) PASSED 163-60 (with 159 votes needed for passage.

As a result the startup of the BOYS basketball season will now be not prior to the Monday following the State Football semi-finals.

Proposition 8 (Sets summer time frames for basketball and football team competitions) PASSED 159-69-1 (with 159 votes needed for passage.

This limits school-to-school basketball competition to June 1 through June 24th (prior to the start of the Dead Period) and football (7 on 7 passing leagues etc) must be between July 10 and July 31.

All of these must also be approved by the Board of Control, the State Board of Education and the State Legislative Review Committee.

The starting date for the first BOYS scheduled basketball game will be (By passing Proposition 6 by a vote of 165 to 65) the Monday following the State Football Semifinals.

Someone knowledgable about the effect that the proposed changes will make spell out the ramifications here.

Does this affect the girls' start times at all? With Title IX and both sides are supposed to be comparable, it would seem if the boys' start later, the girls should start later.

BOYS was specifically highlighted.

Since girls don't play football, I suppose that it will only effect the guys. This might present a fantastic opportunity for the gals to get some prime time exposure for a couple of weeks before the boys season starts up.

Sheer speculation!
