Nelson County 53 Greenwood 19

Nelson County looked sharp tonight...

Not one to sling mudd, and I know this is coming from a Nelson Co. fan point of view, but the coaches at Greenwood need to remember to teach their kids class. At one point in the night I saw a player give the finger to the fans.

Nelson County fans booed their own high school age quarterback a couple of weeks ago. Lets avoid discussions of class and keep this one on the play of the game.

County was up 28-0, 34-7 at half and 53-7 late in the game. Who performed for Nelson? What on earth has gotten in to their offense? They scored 69 in the first 5 games, and now have scored 59 and 53 in consecutive weeks. Greenwood was supposed to be a good team . . .

I wasn't impressed with Greenwood at all. I don't know what happen to Meade when they played them. Greenwood is strong up front, but that was it to me. Their offense was very average if not poor.

Congrats Coach Bruner for keeping your kids focused and not giving up on the season. Wow their last two games have been incredible.

Meade put the ball on the ground 5 times against Greenwood. Sloppy ball security by the Waves.

Tony Bartley returned one of those 97 yards for a score. John Froman had a pair of recoveries.

Nelson gouged GW for 479 yards on the ground. Jordan Keene had 112 yards, Devin Boone had 94 and a TD. De'Sean Patterson was 5-50 with three first-half TDs. Clinton Brooks, a frosh, came in for mop-up duty and had TD runs of 85 and 53 yards (160 total).

The best part about these last two games is reaping the benefits of sticking with the program when things are down and your fans are jumping off the bandwagon and everyone is accusing you of poor coaching and screaming to pass the ball, etc. etc. etc. Bart Bruner does not take any guff from anyone and he makes his kids do two or three things and do them right. He takes the time investing in the kids and they will run through brick walls for him for it.

With the depth these team is developing, and the fact that Bruner sticks with playing guys only one way (except Patterson), I think Nelson County is a dangerous team come playoff time. We'll see if they can sustain this over the next couple of weeks. All other things playing out like we expect them to, Nelson will be back at Greenwood week 1 of the playoffs.

By the way, should Devin Boone be considered an All-State candidate as a pure fullback?

That's an interesting point. I can't imagine too many FBs around the state rolling up the numbers he is. My guess is he's got about 600+ yards and about 7-8 TDs at this point.
