The Bank of Kentucky Arena at NKU and the Girls Sweet Sixteen!!

Featured Replies

As much as I didn't like that the Ninth Region Girls pairing weren't mentioned in today's Cincinnati Enquirer, I loved reading the below article by Ryan Ernst..

New NKU arena a site for regional organizers' eyes

What caught my attention besides the fact that NKU really wants to host both the Ninth Girls/Boys Region, is that The Bank of Kentucky Arena at NKU will be going after the Houchens KHSAA Girls Sweet Sixteen in 2011 after the WKU contract runs out...... Oh would that be sweet, but to move that Tournament you would have to find a new sponsor, as I am sure that Houchens wouldn't want to sponsor the Tournament if they move it out of Bowling Green.

You listening, North American Manufacturing Headquarters of Toyota, Kroger, P&G, Columbia Sussex Corp., Drees or any of the many other major corporate business headquarter in and around NKy?

Will not happen because the rest of the state views NKY as southern Ohio.

Glad you mention that, as over breakfast my daughter and I talked about that very thing.....

Now a bigger question? Throughout the Commonwealth of Kentuck, who has the best name recognition, of these three....

Northern Kentucky University

Covington Catholic

Ft. Thomas Highlands

If you say NKU, you are lying to yourself, and that is clearly why NKU would covet the Girls Sweet Sixteen coming to the campus of NKU. If they want the name recognition, in the rest of the Commonwealth, they need this Tournament and NKU had better go out and get some major, and I mean major sponsorship $$$$$ as the only way that the KHSAA moves this game out of Bowling Green is by a boat load of money being dropped in their laps. If NKU really, really wants this tourney, they could hit up the major local companies from the area (which BTW we do have, more that any other part of the Commonwealth), and easily get the cash to move it, and yes I am including Cincinnati as part of the major local companies, as many of those companies have owners, employees, etc. living in NKy whose kids got to school in NKy.....

Most people in Kentucky consider Bowling Green the other side of the world. I don't think the geography has too much to do with this.

Theoldguy has it right about Bowling Green. Doesn't matter where any new arena is, If Houchens keeps ponying up, the KHSAA will extend its agreement with them indefinitely, unless another sponsor comes up with quite a bit more money.

I was looking to post the exact same thing. Unless, NKY founds a sponsor or Houchens decides to not do it, it will stay in WKY.

It will stay in Bowling Green, because they have to give that side of the state something or people would complain! So they decide to give them the two greatest sports for fans:#1. Girls basketball sweet 16 and #2. Golf. As long as someone keeps putting money into these two sports, they will stay there because if they let them move, they would have to move something else WAY OUT THAT WAY! And there is not really nothing else they want to let go way over there!

You are right and wrong. It will stay because of money not just to give that side of the state something.

I wish they would use the argument going on in the 10th region that it needs to be rotated to be fair to everyone. Presently, I could only take my daughter to see a game on Saturday, unless I take days off work.
