Bell County 51 Cumberland 49

Very close. Skins almost pull out the victory. Should be an interesting regional.

Hey, to beat Cumberland in their gym is an accomplishment for any team.

That is truly an understatement. The balance of free throws (most of Cumberland points were on fts) was way lopsided. Several players should have fouled out early on. The amount of no-calls on Cumberland allowed them to stay in this game. Don't even ask about the clock. I did not think that a student could run the clock....especially in District final. They put time back on the clock several times with no good reason. They buzzed and stopped play giving Cumberland an extra "time-out." and stopped a Bell momentum, etc. Later at end Allowed Whittaker to inbound a pass and get fouled with no time coming off the clock. They then took one second off. Reminded me of the Great Russian-USA Olympic game. Finally a desparation three from beyond the midstripe....nearly went down for Cumberland....and would have given them the victory. There should have never been time for that last-second shot....good thing it missed or there would have really been a controversy. Officials did not work as a team. Many times the official near the home bench would make a call clear across the court and overrule an official standing three feet from the players. I used to referee a lot...you do not do that to each other. Let him make his call...if you don't agree....better you let it go than make a questionable judgement call from across the court. Bell was lucky to survive. The game started out with Bell pulling away...then interesting things began to happen!

First off it wasn't a lopsided called game.Cumberland plays very aggresive, but good defense.Thats how Cumberland has had success.Second the clockkeeper wasn't a student.Cumberland battled back nearly beat the Bobcats.Simple as that.Cumberland is a team to be reckoned with and if their is anyone that knows that it is Whitaker and his boys.

When the scoreboard went out, it read 4:35. When play resumed it read 4:28. Where did those 7 seconds go to. Yes a second should have been ticked off the clock when the final foul was made. That gives Cumberland 6 seconds to get the ball down the court for a 3 to win or two to tie. Answer me that?

Also, the first quarter was physical from Bell's stand point. That alone should have had 2 or 3 players get multiple fouls.

By the way, last time I checked, if you have a ball going out of bounds, you can call a timeout. Where was the timeout that Hogue called late in the game when he deflected the inbounds?

I'm not taking anything away from Bell because they came out ready to play and Cumberland didn't. The Skins turned up the D late in the game but as they say, it was too little too late.

This might be one of the most RIDICULOUS posts I have seen on here in a long time. To make comments like that about the officiating is just ignorant and I am sure if you polled 500 Cumberland fans they would say Bell got the best of the officiating, but the most disturbing thing about this is that a bunch of tough young kids fought their hearts out tonight and almost pulled of a great win and you have the nerve to get on here and cry like a BIG BABY and not even give one ounce of credit to the Cumberland team. People like you are a disgrace to the Bluegrass Preps website.

First of all, I would like to say that the clock keeper is not a student at Cumberland High School. He graduated from Cumberland High School in 2004. He has been keeping clock since he was in the 8th grade at Cumberland Middle School back in 1999. He has since kept clock for the All "A" Regional Championship held at Cumberland HS in 2005. He has kept High School clock for 4 years now. Also, not only was he asked to keep clock for the boys' tournament, he was asked by the staff of JACHS to keep it one night of the girls' tournament, so don't blame anything on the clockkeeper. No time should have been taken off the clock. The clockkeeper started the clock when the ball was thrown in. The clock at Cumberland counts by milseconds, it just not shown on the board. Both scorekeepers seen him turn on the clock. Also, he kept clock for the District and Regional Volleyball Tournament at CHS in 05 and the District Tournament held at JACHS in 2004. You are just mad because Cumberland came back on Bell County and could have beat them.

I certainly did not intend to offend and get personal nor did I mean to put the "student" clockkeeper in a bad light. I felt like that it was too much pressure to put a student in that situation and not proper. I had been misinformed as to his status. It was never his fault....I was again discussing the inconsistency with the officials and their clock calculations. Looks like Cumberland may have come out on the short in of the clock, not Bell. My apologies to the timekeeper for putting him unintentionally in a bad light. I just made my observations based on the game. I believe that many times Bell fouled and was not called as well. My point was that the style of play that a "no-call" let'em play attitude by one official on one end and the tight calling of the third official on the other end can cause a lot of irritation with fans from both teams. The "team" of officials was not in sync. That is all that I am saying, and they let it escalate to the point that players on both teams were guilty of rough play, including at least three "punches" by players out of view of officials....or that were ignored. This is not good for high school basketball. I like to see tough play underneath, etc. but it has to be consistent throughout for the sake of both teams. I did not address the play in that post. Bell slowed down the game and should have kept up the pressure on offense. Cumberland played a hard game, and in no way was I trying to put down their players or effort. I wish them well in the regionals. This was my first and last post on this basketball forum. I will stick to football, where I ususally post. Less intense.

Thanks for your post. I still believe that some people are jealous of the turn-around Cumberland has made and do not want to give them an ounce of credit where it is due.

By the way in your post referring to the horn being blown to stop play, it was because the clock was counting up instead of down, would you have rather the game continued for a period of time and this not been corrected?

Well I have saw Cumberland play and I must say I am shocked the played this close to Bell Co...But the point is a Win is a WIn and guess who won? not Cumberland. So lets all stop fighting now.....

But great Effort by Cumberland, and congratulations to Bell Co.

I think I remember in an earlier post you said you saw them against Clay County and that was probably the worst game they played all year, then you saw the Corbin game, a game that the big kid(Johnson) didnt get involved in, a game that was played a night after battling with Bell county, so I dont think sir, that you have ever really seen Cumberland's A game. I hope they will bring it to Corbin for the 13th region tournament and show everyone what they are capable of.

If anyone had seen Clay County play against Pineville or the way they played against Cawood they probably surely wouldnt be able to figure out how they could have beaten Bell County. I am not saying this to down Clay County, but to make a point that teams have bad nights and sometimes you cant really get a read on their game unless you see them more than once or twice
