Greenup County announces Alex Barker as new Head Coach

Featured Replies

From the Greenup County Boys basketball facebook.

Please join us in welcoming Mr. Alex Barker as the new head coach of Greenup Co. Boys Basketball!

Coach Barker brings with him a powerful combination of leadership, discipline, experience, and passion for building student-athletes, both on and off the court.

A standout high school athlete himself, Coach Barker was a four-year starter who scored 1,357 career points while adding 610 assists. He helped lead his team to a 64th District Championship in 2006, earned All-Area honors twice, and was named the 2006–2007 EKC Defensive Player of the Year. He was also an All-State athlete in Track and Cross Country.

Since then, he has continued building his leadership journey through coaching experience as a varsity assistant, AAU coach, and JUCO assistant, while also serving our country as an Army Veteran with the rank of Captain. Professionally, he has spent the last decade leading Continuous Improvement divisions for a Fortune 100 company in the defense industry.

But beyond the résumé, what stood out most was his heart for this community.

Congratulations to Coach Barker. He was a very solid player for Fairview in his day. He played extremely hard and was an excellent point guard.

The 63rd district will certainly be interesting this year! Russell and Raceland should be the favorites with Greenup and Lewis hiring two new coaches.
