7th Region: Week 10

Featured Replies

? Headlines ?

? | Ballard took a swipe at St. X three weeks and drew blood before succumbing to a Tiger blitzkrieg in the final minutes. They made solid contact on their second attempt, as the Bruins put the X-Men on the canvas last week. The Tigers were able to tighten things up after trailing by double figures at halftime, but a potential game-tying three ball in the waning moments by Jeremiah Jackson missed the mark.

The win over #1 X, coupled with a ten point victory over a hot CAL squad three nights earlier, have earned Ballard the top ranking in the region for the first time this season.

The Bruins’ path to the top wasn't clean. Following the impressive back-to-back wins over CAL and X, Ballard laid an egg in a surprisingly lopsided loss to South Oldham.

Freshman Mason Grivna was the standout performer for Ballard last week, recording double-doubles of 23 & 12 against X and a hefty 35 & 12 against CAL.

H ⤵️ | With five losses in its last six games, Male is in free fall. The Dawgs suffered setbacks to Seneca and Eastern last week without the services of Jordan Mitchell, with Trey Hillerich already lost for the season. The loss to Seneca was Male's first in the series since 2019. Eastern hadn't beaten them since 2017. The Bulldogs subsequently took a tumble in this week's rankings.

☘️ | A suddenly reinvigorated Trinity appears to be righting the ship following a 3-0 week, with wins coming over Eastern, Lexington Catholic, and Adair County. Jayden Johnson posted 20 & 13 against Eastern, while the Rocks’ defense took Damian Jung out of the game offensively, holding him to 3 points. LexCath brought out the best in Xavier Cosby, who knocked down five threes en route to a game high 21 points against the Knights.

♈ | Ahmad Shelton continues to be the region's premier glass cleaner, grabbing eleven more to go with 24 points in Manual's win over Fairdale. He's recorded double digit rebounds in all eighteen games he's played this season.

〰️ | Atherton’s Jeffrey Johnson trails only Jordan Mitchell among 7th Region scorers. His 30 point outburst against KCD boosts his season average past the twenty point mark to 20.1.

?? | A loss to Jeffersontown capped Waggener’s win streak at six, but not before the Wildcats beat Atherton. The two had been ranked numbers 9 (Atherton) and 10 (Waggener) since Week 1, with the order finally being flipped in favor of the Wildcats this week.

? ? | Central and Shawnee previewed the possible district battle to come, with the Jackets gutting out a three point win over the Eagles. Tae'ren Pryor posted 28 & 10 to lead Central. The two teams have had some good post-season scraps in recent years and could be headed for another.

Why isn’t Jordan Mitchell playing?  Did he get hurt?

Word is an Achilles issue.

Hate to see any of these young men get hurt.  Hope he’s ok and can be ready to go in a couple of weeks.
