Audio from 1999 Region Finals

Featured Replies

I have boxes of game-length audio tapes from various broadcasts that I originated. My goal is to one day convert them all to digital audio.

Yesterday, I was cleaning out my desk here at work and I found a tape from our Pre-Game show prior to the Lincoln County-Bullit East Region Final in 1999. I don't remember how it got here and why it isn't with the other tapes stored at home.

Anyway, I have been doing a lot of internet broadcasting lately and had the equipment in my office....so, I loaded up about 30 minutes for your listening pleasure.

My co-anchor is Phil Pendleton. He worked for me from 1994-2001. He is now the Frankfort Bureau Chief for WKYT-TV (Lexington Channel 27). I miss him and those broadcasts.

As you can see, we did things that you won't hear on many local radio stations. For instance, during this pregame show, he is in our studios (about 2 miles from stadium) with a board operator and producer while I am at the stadium. We took live callers during the pregame show and had recorded interviews with other area coaches, such as Chuck Smith at Boyle County.

This was the beginning of Boyle County's run and we had a reporter there who phoned in live updates. Also that night, Danville was hosting Somerset and Rockcastle County was hosting Sheldon Clark. There were 4 Regional Finals within a 25 mile radius of Stanford.

Then, as now, I was living in Chicago but I would fly to Louisville every Friday and then drive to Stanford for football games. I would spend the night and return on Saturday afternoon.

I would love to listen to this if my computer had sound. Also Rockcastle County was @ Sheldon Clark that year. Sheldon Clark has never been to Rockcastle.

You are right about the Rock game, it was at SC.

We had sound clips from Coach Larkey during the broadcast. You should check it out on another computer.
