Just saw Pendleton Co.’s football and track complex at Sharp Middle School on US#27 in northern PC.  Wow!  A first class turf facility to say the least.  My memory (faulty, for sure) says that PC was without football once Falmouth HS closed…maybe 60 years?  Then I was told two mothers were the ramrods that approached the school board because they wanted their boys to play football.  They were told the system had no funding for a new sport.IMG_1431.thumb.jpeg.640f90068aad0f2792ca690eea5bbc05.jpeg They accepted the challenge, raised over $50,000 and the board was embarrassed to not give the sport a shot.  Can anyone share the accuracy and perhaps a more complete story?

Mark Story wrote a great article about this very subject in the Herald-Leader back on December 28, 2003. It doesn't appear to be available online but here is a clipped version from Newspapers.com. @Oldercoach pretty much hit the nail on the head with his original post. (I had to cut the picture into two parts but you should still be able to scroll down and read the entire thing).
