16th Region Championship

Russell Red Devils (27-6, Media Poll #13) | Boyd County Lions (24-10)

? | Ellis T. Johnson Arena in Morehead tonight at 7:00pm

? | Cast aside any notion of the championship being decided in the semis. Russell may have won both regular season meetings by twenty or more, but this is a Pete Fraley coached team, with a pair of six-foot-plus college bound athletes, and a title on the line. Fraley's got six 'ships already, looking to inch closer to the immortal John "Hop" Brown's mark of eight. A former charge of Brown's, Mandy Layne is looking to grab the next rung on the ladder with her fourth region crown. Her Devils endured an intense battle with Ashland to get here, as did Boyd County with Fleming County. The Lady Lions are hobbling into the finals after suffering a rash of injuries that would cripple most teams. Tonight, we find out who's got more left in the tank as we conclude the 16th Region's Road to Rupp.

Halftime

Russell 37

Boyd County 28

Biggs and Steele lead their squads with 13 and 10 points, respectively. This is as good as I've seen Biggs look in a while. She's been aggressive and her shot is falling.

Outside of the 15-2 run, Boyd has more than held its own. It happened in the blink of an eye, covering three minutes in the middle of the 2Q.

Slow start to the second half.

Still 37-28 Devils.

5:50 3Q

Steele for 2.

Stevens one ups her with 3.

Timeout Russell.
