cardinalalum
Basketball in the 15th is upon us again and the defending region champion the Pikeville Panthers are loaded and looking to repeat their performance on the hardwood again. What will be interesting to see if anyone has the firepower to take them on this season. Let’s jump right into our early rankings for the start of the 2022 season. #1 Pikeville – Led by senior Rylee Sammons who just signed with Tennessee Tech the Panthers are the early season favorite for the 15th and check in the preseason polls in the top 25 in the state. (Opening game vs Letcher Central 11-28) #2 Martin County – Coach James team this season is Junior heavy and leading that pack is Luke Hale. The Cardinals are a tall and athletic team that can give any team a problem on a nightly basis. (Opening game at Russell 11-29) #3 Pike Central – Central might have the best big man in the region in Jaden Stewart who is only a sophomore and is going to cause problems in the post for any team in the 15th. (Opening Game vs Martin County 12-1) #4 Shelby Valley – Valley is looking to return to what they were a few seasons ago and be a top 5 team in the region, will playing so many young guys last season pay off for them? Only time will tell. (Opening game vs Phelps 12-2) #5 Floyd Central – FC has finally got some experience on the varsity side of things after playing young guys the past few seasons. Coach Moore should be an early favorite for their district which is going to be a little down this season. (Opening game at Elliott County 11-28) #6 Magoffin County #7 Johnson Central #8 Betsy Layne #9 Paintsville #10 Prestonsburg #11 East Ridge #12 Lawrence County #13 Belfry #14 Phelps #15 Jenkins Top 5 players 1. Rylee Sammons 2. Luke Hale 3. Jaden Stewart 4. Adean Barnett 5. Jaylan Rigdon
