Today is World Autism Awareness Day

I'm not sure if I have ever formally introduced my son to the BGP Community. He is a special little guy. I am so blessed to be with him every day. If you have any friends that are impacted by Autism, send them a text today.

Cute kid, PP1.  You are blessed.

He also is blessed to have a parent who is on top of it and builds into his life.

What, would you say, has been the single best resource for making you aware of autism and how those who are close to someone with autism can be a positive influence?

(Sorry I'm late to see this)

Hard to point out a single resource. The best thing is how our society, as a whole, has become more accepting of people with special needs. Because individuals with autism are always among us , you can pick up on little idiosyncrasies.

I noticed when he was two years old how he really would not look me in the eye, not respond to his name, and (a somewhat recently discovered trait) would never point at anything or follow my finger when I pointed at something.

20 years ago I would not even had noticed those things as a sign of autism and it would have delayed us getting him help. Lucky for him we’ve had him in every therapy imaginable since 2018.

We had a very scary incident with a pool on memorial day, so we recently started swim lessons. We’ll see how that goes.
