BluegrassPreps.com Region 6 Week 3 Review

Recommended Posts

Another week in the books for the 21-22 season and more shake up in the 6th Region!  Let's look at the current rankings:

1. Western (7-1)  The Warriors have continues to fortify their #1 ranking.  Western went 2-0 this week, with impressive wins over Doss (83-75 in DOUBLE OT) and Central.  Jr. G Trent Hinkle leads the team in scoring at 18.4ppg, but they have 4 players averaging double digits.  Western is also very young - starting 2 fr., 2 so., and jr. Hinkle in their last two games.  Because of their high ceiling and room for improvement, until a 6th region team beats them, they will likely stay #1 in my book.  They have a HUGE match-up Monday night vs. DuPont Manual in the first round of the MAC's Day Care Holiday Classic @ PRP.

2.  PRP (5-1) The Panthers also had an impressive week, defeating hard-luck DeSales and scoring 107! points in a blow-out of Moore.  PRP has an impressive 3-man attack with jr. F Keith Robinson (20.1ppg), sr. C Vic Lado (15ppg) and jr. PG Zee McCown (16ppg)  PRP is hosting Waggener in the first round of the MAC's Day Care Holiday Classic on 12/20.

3. Doss (5-2)  The Dragons only 2 losses are to the two teams ranked ahead of them in the 6th - and just past Tuesday they took top-ranked Western to double OT.  Like PRP, the Dragons also have a strong 3 man attack - sr.'s Inslee Carroll (16.2ppg), Tony Moss (16ppg) and Chris Anderson (14ppg).  They have an experienced squad and will likely stay in the top 5 most of the season.  Doss is traveling to South Warren to play in The Best in Hoops Classic this week.

4. Jeffersontown (5-1)  The Chargers also has a great week - defeating Trinity by 21 on Tuesday.  There are no stats on file, but the Vasser brothers (sr. Will 14.2ppg and so. Dre 13.8ppg) have been leading the way.  Up next is Jeff(IN) in the first round of the MAC's Day Care Holiday Classic.

5. Southern  (4-1) The Trojans went 2-0 this week, easily dispatching Bullitt Central and Ft. Knox.  The Trojans are led by sr. G Cam Pfiester (13.8ppg) and sharpshooter Xavier Shobe (14.8ppg).  They next play St. Xavier in the first round of the MAC's Day Care Holiday Classic @ PRP.

6. Bullitt East  (4-2)  The Chargers split games this week with Moore and a tough Doss squad.   Sr. Tucker Blandford is the leader of BE (14.7ppg) but jr. G Nolan Davenport is leading them in scoring at 15ppg.  Up next for the Chargers is the Cecilian Bank Classic @ Breck Co.

7. DeSales (2-3)  It's probably not fair to drop the Colts down this far, but it's just a testament to the strength of the region this year.  DeSales split games this week with Central (w) and Highlands from NKY (L).   The Colts currently have a balanced attack, with 4 players averaging double figures (Austin Cole-Carr leads team at 17.4ppg)  They next play at PRP on Tuesday 12/14; with a win they will shoot back up the rankings.

8. Butler  (3-5) The Bears have played one of the toughest schedules so far in the State, much less the 6th region.  After defeating Male, they Bears have lost to Ballard and CAL (no disgrace there).  Sr's  Mershon Dickerson (15.7ppg) and Julion Beard (12.2ppg) lead Butler in scoring.  The Bears hit the road this week to play in the Madisonville - North Hopkins Holiday Classic.

9. Evangel  (1-5)  The Eagles are another team playing a brutal schedule.  Guard Christian Spalding (11.3ppg) and C Cyr Malonga (10ppg) are pacing Evangel so far.  They are currently in Las Vegas this week to play in the Jerry Tarkanian Classic.

10. Fern Creek (3-5)  The Tigers, after their Trinity win, suffered losses to Manual and Male.  As expected, sr. Darian Lewis is pacing FC at 19.1ppg.  They are off until 12/27 where they play in the Lake Cumberland Classic

11. Iroquois (6-1)  The upstart Raiders continue to impress, going 2-0 this week and could move up the rankings with continued success.  The Q is  paced by sr. Davion Burton (13.6ppg).  They next host the Iroquois Invitational starting on 12/20.

12. Bullitt Central  (4-2) senior Hunter Coleman is leading BC at 21.6ppg

13. Fairdale (4-4)

14.  Holy Cross   (3-3) so. F Jacob Hand is leading HC is scoring at 21.3ppg.

15. Beth Haven (3-1) Sr. F Luka Mateski is averaging a team high 24.6ppg (leads the region).

16. Valley (1-8)

17. North Bullitt (1-8)

18. Moore (0-7)

19. Whitefield Academy (1-5)
