Lincoln County and Pulaski County both sit atop the heap undefeated but Boyle County now has Luke Imfeld back and is looking to reignite their hopes of championship contention. The rest of the region continues to find their identities as we continue to get more clarity heading into holiday tournament time.

 

Team Rankings

1.      Lincoln County – The red hot Patriots took care of business in convincing twice in Nicholasville last week with a 60 to 42 win over West Jessamine and a 90 to 49 win over East Jessamine. Colton Ralston had 25 points in the blowout win over the Jaguars. Lincoln County participates in the Legacy Nissan Dribble Drive Challenge at South Laurel this week, starting with Lafayette.

2.      Pulaski County – Pulaski remains undefeated with a pair of blowout home wins over Wayne County and Somerset. Gavin Stevens is not only the team leader in points and rebounds, but he is scorching it at the free throw line, starting the season out 22 of 24 from the charity stripe. The Maroons have two games left in 2021 as they square off against Doss and Franklin-Simpson in The Best in Hoops event at South Warren this week.

3.      Boyle County – There has been much talk that there may be a huge drop off from Lincoln and Pulaski to Boyle then to everyone else in the region. The Rebels continue to dash this analysis though as they dispatched Southwestern, Rockcastle County and Clay County this past week, all with relative ease. Luke Imfeld is back from the gridiron and making his presence known as he has averaged over 18 points per game since his return to the hardwood. The Rebels remain undefeated with him in the lineup. The Rebels are off this week.

4.      West Jessamine – The Colts dropped a home contest to the Lincoln County Patriots but bounced back with wins against Mercer County and Somerset. Daniel Waters is starting the season off hot, currently averaging nearly 18 points per game. West faces Lexington Christian to kick off their run in the Lee’s Famous Recipe Holiday Classic at Madison Southern.

5.        McCreary Central – The Raiders fell to Knox Central in the 2A Sectional game, but bounced back for a hard-fought road win at Southwestern. They host the Arby’s/KFC Classic this week, playing Barbourville, Perry County Central, Lynn Camp and Taylor County.

6.      Rockcastle County – The Rockets fell to Boyle County by 15 but had two convincing wins against Casey County and West Carter. Daniel Mullins still leads the way with 18 points per game. They join regional companion Lincoln County in the Legacy Nissan Dribble Drive Challenge at South Laurel as they are slated to play 9th region Cooper.

7.      Wayne County – The Cardinals fell to Pulaski County but also registered a win against Metcalfe County. Mason Burchett scored 29 in the win and Kendall Phillips scored 26. They go to McCreary County for the Arby’s/KFC Classic, playing Perry County Central, Taylor County, Barbourville and Lynn Camp.  

8.      Garrard County – The Golden Lions had a huge win over Mercer County by 18, lead by Ethan Cooper with 19 points and Montavin Quisenberry with 17. They then lost to Grant County in a neutral site game at Harrison County. They now travel to Gatlinburg to play in the Smoky Mountain Christmas Classic, starting their run against Oliver Springs (TN).

9.  Mercer County – The Titans fell to both West Jessamine and Garrard County last week. They, like Garrard County, travel to Gatlinburg to play in the Smoky Mountain Christmas Classic, starting off with Landrum (SC).

10.  East Jessamine – The Jaguars were blown out by Lincoln County in their sole game last week and hope to recover as they play in the Sayre School-Jim Lankster Classic against Wolfe County, Bluegrass United and host Sayre.

11.      Danville – The Ads split last week, defeating Frankfort and losing to Madison Southern, both on the road. Dante Hayden scored 25 and Jalen Dunn scored 23 in the road win. They face Campbellsville, Western Hills and Franklin County this week.

12.  Somerset – The Briar Jumpers got a much needed win against Casey County but fell to Pulaski County and West Jessamine. They travel to the Arby’s/KFC Classic at McCreary Central this week.

13.  Southwestern – The Warriors fell to Boyle County and McCreary Central last week. They face Caverna, Valley, and Clinton County in the Twin Lakes Holiday Classic at Clinton County.

14. Somerset Christian – The Cougars split their games last week, falling to Barbourville on the road before defeating Jackson County on their home court. They face Casey County at Danville Christian this week.

15.  Casey County – The Rebels fell to Somerset and Rockcastle County but look to avenge an earlier loss to Somerset Christian as they take on the Cougars again this week, this time at Danville Christian.

16.  Danville Christian – The Warriors defeated Nort Bullitt on the road and host the Stuart Powell Ford Christmas Classic this week, starting with Model.

17.  Burgin – The Bulldogs sat out last week due to Covid. We will see if they have recovered enough to keep their spot in the Stuart Powell Ford Christmas Classic at Danville Christian.

Yea I believe that Lincoln, Pulaski and Boyle are the top 3 in the region.  If you add up the wins and loses, the teams in the 12 region they are 63-64.  The top 3 are 21-1 and the rest of the region in 39-63.  But this is basketball and you can never count out any of the team in the region.
