Villa Madonna Holiday Classic

Featured Replies

I was very bored today, so I traveled to Villa Madonna Holiday Classic to watch my home school play against the host school. It was exciting as any high school basketball GIRLS game can be. The host school ended up winning by a score of 55-50, but started out up 13-1. A lot of character and heart was shown by the Lady Bears to battle back to tie it at 50 before Villa scored the final 5 points of the game.

I dont get to see much girls basketball anymore due to health reasons, but I noticed somone I havent seen before get a lot of playing time... #50 for the Lady Bears scored several buckets underneath and grabbed some boards too. Her and #20 (Jefferson I believe) kept the Lady Bears alive...

Can someone give me some info. on this #50 like who she is, what grade she is in, and why isnt she playing more? She had to have at least 12-15 points.

Good Effort Lady Bears... Bounce back tomorrow!

Bracken did impress me last night as well. Many times they had the chance to cash in, but they kept fighting. Good luck this year.

#50 is Alex Rogers, she is a sophomore and she is one heck of a player and student of the game. I have seen her play since she was in the 7th grade and she has progressed very well in the game. Alot of what she does is due to the way she has learned about the game not just by playing but by watching games with her dad whenever she can. Not just watching but breaking down the games. U reach, you and I have talked about her before. I am glad to hear that she has gotton more playing time. She will be one to watch as she progresses even more. She may tend to over think sometimes but as she smooths out more people will be talking about her.

She kinda reminds me alot of a kid that plays at a school near by on a boys team. Why they dont get the playing time you tell me. Not only can they play but are great kids on and off the floor.

Good Luck Lady Bears and hope you start feelling better U reach.

Always seems to be a nice Christmas Tourney. I'm pretty sure Villa has been doing it for a while. Nice to see different teams from all around the state show up to a small school.

The finals will have Greenup, who is playing real well right now, and the winner of Villa and Scott. Villa was up 13 or so at the half on Scott.(Game in progress). The Sexton girl from Greenup is a player!

Bracken must have decided to keep #50 on the bus today.Just amazing that a kid can have a career point night in less than a half. And barely earns a quarter's worth of playing time the next day. Not the best incentive for strong play off the bench. Keep digging Lady bears - Good Luck tommorrow

Bracken is a great team. Down big in all 3 games and battled back to tie all. However, they were just on the wrong side and some times there were questionable calls. Good luck to the bears, they'll do fine.

you are correct I agree, I dont understand that decision either . Coaches sometimes do things alot diffent then I would coach..

On a positive note, I was really encouraged by the way the Lady bears fought back and made all 3 games close. They were down 15,12, and 7 in the 1st quarter of each game but managed to fight back and make close games of all 3. Wasn't that long ago they would have have got on the bus after the 1st quarter and phoned in the rest. Also, to the folks at Villa Madonna: Great tournament again this year. Really enjoyed visiting your gym again. Look forward to next year.
