B-Ball-fan Posted March 3, 2021 Posted March 3, 2021 Holy Smokes folks this was a game!!! The Boone County Rebels who seemed to have been hitting their stride as of late, climbed the Hill at Newport Central Catholic with the swagger of a winning attitude that they carried from their first possession until the final horn, and just as they had planned they would not be denied. I’m telling you folks, this one is worth a watch even though you already know the outcome. It was just so darned exciting to see Boone County’s confidence increase with every play, and personally after the mighty fight that they gave if it had all turned sour for them at the end, I might’ve cried myself to sleep tonight with distraught. They struck first and held the lead until mid-way in the 3rd period NewCath finally got the edge at 40-39, and then the Breds ended that period up 47-46 and we just knew that the 4th period was going to be an exciting one. Right out of the gate the Rebels were on fire in the 1st quarter showing who was boss, and ended that period up by 10, 21-11. About 2 ½ minutes into the game Joel Ilses fouled a Rebel going up for a shot and came down hard and got up limping and we didn’t see him again until the beginning of the 2nd quarter. The Rebels held control and went into halftime with the lead 34-29 I was biting my nails hard in the 4th period because while the Rebels showed every indication they were going to fight this thing out and finish it, I was just praying that the ball didn’t bounce the other way and they’d be denied the joy of victory after having played their hearts and guts out. I really would like to see that stats because I literally can’t tell you names, especially for the Rebels, but Baggett, and Butts both had good games for the Breds, finishing well around the rim. Butts really does finish well around the rim and is super dependable. The Rebels were fighting on every possession for every loose ball, and every rebound, and just kicking it into high gear in transition. Number 23 senior Parker Fields for the Rebels perhaps might not pass the eye test as being a basketball player, but wow that kid doesn’t stop. He’s no doubt their leader, and is just one dynamite player. I don’t know his back story, but I was highly impressed with him. If you’ve got the time I highly recommend watching this game, because this is what Kentucky High School Basketball is all about, and the thrill of victory and seeing your hard work pay off. I think (though I’m not sure) that Boone will face Conner in the first round of the 33rd district, and if they take this same intensity and tenacity into that game, I’m calling the upset right now. At the end of 1 it was Boone County up 21-11 At the half it was Boone up 34-29 At the end of the 3rd it was NCC up 47-46 Final Boone County 64-61 Cole Shumate for the Rebels ended the night with 25. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YR1tdeKd_0M 3
