Walton-Verona is on a roll heading into the semi-finals of the 8th Region. The Lady Bearcats got the big upset in the 32nd district final, then followed that up with a rout of Gallatin County in the first round of the region.

 

They'll face a South Oldham Lady Dragon squad that is hitting their stride after two big wins in the 29th district basketball tournament over North Oldham and Oldham County, then a convincing victory over Woodford County in the opening round of the region.

 

Haylee Neeley - who scored only four points in the district final - was a one-girl wrecking crew in the opening round for WV, and she'll be a challenge for the South Oldham defense with her hot shooting from the outside.

 

South will counter with a balanced attack that featured 5 players in double digits against Woodford, led by Brynna Blackburn's 19. Blackburn - who hit 5 of 6 threes against Woodford - has hit 18 of 37 threes in the past five games, during which time South has gone 5-0.

 

Pegasus Sports hopes to have video available for our coverage, beginning at 6 pm ET. The Collins IT folks are still working on the issues we are having in getting the video stream out. If we cannot broadcast video, we will still broadcast an audio broadcast.

I think this will be the semi-final to watch Friday. Both teams have shooters and can score, but I think the bottom-line question is how well will South score against Walton's defense. Walton is very good at slowing the game down if they feel that this will help their cause. (see District 32 finals vs. SK)
