Week Nine Review:

 

Madisonville-North Hopkins continues to shine and is no doubt the best team in region 2. Really they are the only team in region 2 that has a chance for a state title. Webster seems to have lost some ground to some other teams, specifically Henderson County which seems to be doing very well now. Hopkins County Central has also started to make headway in the region as the rest of the teams are struggling in many ways. Here are the week 9 rankings:

 

1. Madisonville North Hopkins – BGP #8

Season record: 20-3

The Maroons won both games they had this week, both away games. They defeated Owensboro 82-69 and then Union County 80-41. They have 2 home games this week against Owensboro Catholic and Caldwell County and then a big game against BGP #17 Butler at Warren Central.

 

2. Webster County

Season Record: 19-3

 

Webster County defeated Caldwell County in a close game 75-71, however they lost to Henderson County 66-56. While this loss is nothing to panic about, some alarms may be sounding because teams seem to be figuring out the Trojans as evidence in the very close games against Crittenden, Hopkinsville, and Caldwell County. They will play Lyon County and Union County next, we will see if they can rebound.

 

3. Henderson County

Season Record: 14-9

 

Henderson won both their games this week against Davies County and Webster County. That is 4 in a row for the Colonels. The biggest win is the 66-56 overtime win at Webster County. Coach Smithhart has Henderson playing very well and they have a good chance of finishing very strong. They will play Union County and Hopkinsville this week.

 

4. University Heights

Season Record:10-9

 

The Blazers only had one game this past week, and they soundly defeated Hopkinsville 70-51. They have a game on Feb 8 but an opponent hasn’t been named yet. They will play Christian County following that game. UHA has won 6 of their last 7 games with the only loss coming to Murray.

 

5. Lyon County

Season Record: 14-9

 

The Lyons won 3 of 4 this week. They were victorious against Dawson Springs, Trigg County, and Caldwell County, however they lost to Calloway County 64-50. They have a big game at Webster County on Tuesday, which could be a signature game for them.

 

6. Christian County

Season Record: 8-14

 

Christian County lost Owensboro Catholic and Lincoln County this week, but were able to defeat Fort Campbell. They have really struggled lately losing 6 of their last 8. They play Warren Central and Taylor County next.

 

 

7. Hopkinsville

Season Record: 9-14

 

Hopkinsville lost to University Heights which marks the first time in a decade that the Tigers lost all four games to their crosstown rivals. Their season continues to be a struggle for Hopkinsville. They will play Trigg County, Warren Central, and Henderson County this week.

 

8. Crittenden County

Season Record: 10-13

 

Crittenden had a tough week after having some promising wins. They lost to Trigg County, Union County and big to Mayfield. They were able to pull out a win against Livingston Central. They will play Community Christian and Dawson Springs this week.

 

9. Caldwell County

Season Record: 9-13

 

The Tigers lost all three games this week, however they were the underdogs in all 3. Marshall County, Webster County, and Lyon County all defeated Caldwell County as they have dropped 4 of 5 games. They will try to reverse fortunes against Hopkins County Central before going to Madisonville.

 

10. Union County

Season Record: 8-13

 

Union County defeated Crittenden County, but lost their next two games to Madisonville and Paducah Tilghman. They will play Henderson County, Webster County, and Apollo next.

 

11. Trigg County

Season Record: 10-13

 

The Wildcats split their games this week, defeating Crittenden County in overtime, but losing to Lyon County by 15. They will play Hopkinsville, St. Mary, and Hancock County this week.

12. Hopkins County Central

Season Record: 6-15

 

The Storm have definitely made a nice turnaround this season. They have won 6 of their last 8 games, including two wins this week against McLean County and Dawson Springs. They will play Caldwell County and Livingston Central this week as well as Trinity (Whitesville).

 

13. Dawson Springs

Season Record: 8-13

 

The Panthers lost to Hopkins County Central 73-67. They will play Crittenden County and Frederick Fraize this week.

 

 

14. Fort Campbell

Season Record: 6-16

 

Fort Campbell’s woes continue as they lost all 4 games this week. That is 8 in a row and 15 of 16. The Falcons will play Montgomery Central (TN) and Christian Fellowship this week in trying to get back on track.

 

15. Livingston Central

Season Record: 1-21

 

The Cardinals finally snapped their losing streak by defeating Fort Campbell 58-55. They then lost two close games to Crittenden County and Hickman County. They will play Christian Fellowship and Hopkins Central next.
