Louisville City FC, a professional team in the USL Championship, has announced the creation of a team in League 2, an amateur league which is two levels below the main club in USL's structure (the professional League 1 is in between). The team will be comprised of college and high school players and the season runs from May-August and is considered a developmental league.

This fills a spot locally that was formerly held by the now-defunct Derby City Rovers top level team, who played in the league when it was called the USL Premier Development League. The team's Director of Youth Development, Mario Sanchez, will be its first coach.

Hopefully this should provide some good opportunities for some players locally. There are a lot of really talented players in the league and can be a great experience. I saw a number that suggested that on average, 7 of every 10 players selected in the MLS SuperDraft over the last decade have played at least some time in this league.

Sounds cool and a good opportunity for local talent.

I'm assuming they'll play at the new stadium too?

With the addition of the NWSL team as well, they're planning on building a pretty substantial practice facility somewhere. Wouldn't be surprised to see them play out there eventually as interest in buying tickets for an amateur squad that only plays 14 games every summer will be pretty limited.

From a spectator perspective, this news isn't hugely interesting. As someone interested in more opportunities for local guys to get games against other really talented players, this is very interesting. As someone hoping that that the senior team might find a few diamonds in the rough and get them signed, I'm hugely excited.
