June 3, 20197 yr Needing to win three straight to stay alive after dropping a tough one to Illinois State on Saturday, the Cardinals took care of business on Sunday with wins over IU and Illinois State. Coming from the losers' bracket, the Cards now need to beat the Redbirds again in order to advance to the weekend's Super Regional. Luke Smith pitched an absolute gem, going 8 1/3 innings while striking out seven and allowing just three hits. It was a 5-1 contest until the eighth inning, when Louisville plated six runs to blow the game open and stretch it to 11-1. The final game of the regional takes place Monday afternoon, with first pitch at 1 pm.
June 3, 20197 yr Author Luke was a beast last night. Huge game for him. It's a shame he couldn't finish the game, but after he cruised through the first 8 throwing just 100 pitches, it took him nearly 30 to get that first out in the ninth. Still, just an unreal outing at a time Louisville REALLY needed it. I thought I heard the announcer say it was his first start since mid-April.
