May 29, 20197 yr Conditions could be favorable for showers and thunderstorms to be ongoing across the Ohio Valley early in the day on Thursday. This activity will continue east and new storms will also develop through the destabilizing warm sector during the afternoon. The primary threat should be damaging wind and some hail. However, an isolated tornado threat may still exist. I will update in the morning.
May 30, 20197 yr Author The severe threat continues for Thursday. The Storm Prediction Center has all of Kentucky in a Cat. 1 Marginal Risk Area for scattered strong to severe storms. However, there is a portion of northeast Kentucky that is in a Cat. 2 Slight Risk Area. As heating through the day commences in the vicinity of the lingering cold front, convective development is expected to begin possibly by late morning. With fast winds aloft storms should spread quickly eastward both as bands/clusters as a few isolated possibly rotating storms. Along with the risk for hail, damaging winds are expected locally. Additionally, a weak low is expected to cross the region and may provide conditions for local enhancement to the otherwise limited tornado risk. The following is from the Ohio Valley HRRR simulated radar. It is an hourly simulation meaning it shows each hour during its run. This simulation is from 11 am to 6 pm EDT. I will update as we go through the day. If any warnings are issued they will be sent through our Twitter page. http://bluegrasspreps.com/weather/bgp-com-weather-342822.html
May 30, 20197 yr Author The Cat. 2 Slight Risk Area for parts of Kentucky has been expanded to include parts of eastern Kentucky down to just south of Prestonsburg and westward to between Lexington and Winchester. The chance for strong to severe storms continues for the second day in a row. Although some early-day storms/lingering cloud cover may hinder destabilization in the immediate vicinity of the west/east-oriented front, stronger heating and moderate destabilization are expected. The threats to look out for are damaging winds isolated hail and possibly some tornado potential.
May 30, 20197 yr Author The Storm Prediction Center has moved the Cat. 2 Slight Risk area southward. It has also been expanded towards the southwest. It now includes London up to around Berea then over to about Morehead.
