Class 5A

Covington Catholic continued their case to be recognized as the Best of the Bluegrass by beating perennial Ohio powerhouse, Columbus St. Francis de Sales going away. The Colonels' historic rival Highlands knows that judgement day is coming soon and made their move to build hype by staking their claim as Northern Kentucky's second best team by taking care of business against Simon Kenton. Two teams who know about geographical rivalries are South Oldham and Oldham County. The Dragons got the win in a very tightly contested game and now control their own destiny. A light schedule this week does have one game that immediately catches the eye. Christian County and Owensboro appears to be a very even game in the making with big implications on the line.

1. Covington Catholic -- OPEN

2. Bowling Green vs. Grayson County (9/27)

3. South Warren at Greenwood

4. South Oldham vs. Nelson County

5. Southwestern vs. 6A Central Hardin

6. Highlands -- OPEN

7. Anderson County vs. Grant County

8. Owensboro at #9 Christian County

9. Christian County vs. #8 Owensboro

10. Pulaski County -- OPEN

Highlands now has 5 blowout wins, including blowouts over ranked 6A Simon Kenton and ranked 3A Lexington Catholic. What are Southwestern and South Oldham wins that justify a higher ranking? South Oldham also has a worse loss than Highlands. IMO the Birds should be #4.

I’m pretty sure this is accurate. I believe if Highlands played SO and SW it would be similar to the game we had with SK.

But it’s ok rank Highlands lower. Have to milk this “Highlands is down” stuff while we still can.
