SEC Preview 2018

Featured Replies

What do you expect from the teams in the SEC this year?

Division winners? Champion? Sleeper teams? Teams destined to take a step back?

Let's cut to the chase, its going to be Alabama and Georgia in the Championship game with Alabama probably winning.

The fun stuff starts with the other teams in the conference. LSU for the first time in forever has a QB with Joe Burrow so I expect a really good year from an always talented team. It wouldn't surprise me to see Florida have a good year. Dan Mullen has a habit of getting the most out of his QB's. Nick Fitzgerald is coming up on several heisman darkhorse lists and Joe Moorehead seems poised to takeover where Dan Mullen left off. Other than that, Missouri is relevant this year simply because Drew Lock projects to be the #1 QB taken in next years draft.

Kentucky should go 7-5 unless Stoops makes more boneheaded decisions like he has in the last two years. Also, he needs to reign in some of these players, (Jordan Jones) so they don't commit these same stupid personal foul penalties.

Division winners Georgia and Bama.

Conference winner Georgia.

Sleeper. South Carolina.

Georgia is living off of last year's success. There is film on Frohm now and defenses will adjust. They walked through what might be considered the worst eastern conf in decades. They have to replace key starters on defense especially at the LB corps. Everyone just assumes because he coached with Saban that he can coach like Saban. They will be good but I think it is way too early to give Kirby this sort of benefit of doubt.

The conference as a whole will perform much better than expected. Miss State, LSU, Auburn, Bama, UGA, South Carolina and probably at some point Texas A@M and/or Florida will be top 25 teams. South Carolina will give UGA fits early in the season and LSU will be all Bama wants when they head to Death Valley late in the season.

If Joe Burrow is as good as I expect him to be, then I don’t think Bama makes it out of Baton Rouge with a win. LSU has played them really close 2 years in a row without a QB. Granted Jalen Hurts was playing QB for Bama not Tua. But heard an interesting discussion on the radio yesterday about Tua. The dude is a gun slinger. He can do things that Jalen Hurts can only dream of. Most importantly he can go out and win a football game with his arm. But because of this mentality he’s going to be prone to 1 or 2 games that he is going to put Bama in a position to lose because of his arm as well. I think LSU is likely that game this year. Long way to go for both teams until that matchup, but I thought it made for pretty interesting discussion.

LSU could easily win that game, but I don't know what kind of team LSU is this year. They don't have good running backs believe it or not. I'm hearing that Burrow is the real deal but it's one year. Tua will be fine, that's the talking heads trying to find holes in his game. Bama's issue will be with it's secondary early on, but they don't play anyone with enough "dudes" early on to beat them.

Let’s be real, Bamas schedule is really soft this year. Burrow has 2 years of eligibility left I believe.

With Burrow I was talking about he has just been in the system for less than a year. New everything to him so I don't know how much they will gel. The Bama schedule thing is old to me....it is what it is. Their cross divisional rival is Tennessee and they drew Missouri this year. One of the main reasons Tennessee is bad is because Bama is good. The fact is other than Georgia no one in the east would make their schedule tougher.

I really don’t care that much about Bamas schedule tbh. I just think it’s funny that after all of these years about complaining about other teams schedules being soft (particularly teams from a certain Midwest conference) that whenever Bama has an easy schedule the fan base tries to brush it off. I’m not saying this is you I’m just saying the fanbase in general. The irony isn’t lost on me.

I've never seen or heard Bama fans complaining about other teams having an easy schedule. I have seen that from some KY fans though. I have also seen OSU fans complaining about Bama's easy schedule many times in the past.

I mean if you don’t think OSU fans are going to let Bama fans hear after years of them telling us we aren’t any good because “we don’t play nobody” then you just don’t know us at all. A schedule never has and never will decide what makes a great football team. Maybe, finally, some of the Bama people will understand that.

Like I said, on this site I've never heard any Bama fans talk down OSU's schedule, but I have heard OSU fans talk down Bama's. As to outside this site, I've heard both sides bellyaching about each other but not one moreso than the other.
