July 14, 20188 yr ...HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM THIS MORNING TO 8 PM CDT THIS EVENING... The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued a Heat Advisory, which is in effect from 10 AM this morning to 8 PM CDT this evening. * HEAT INDEX...High temperatures in the mid 90s coupled with high humidity will result in peak heat index readings from 105 to 110 this afternoon. * IMPACTS...The combination of heat and humidity will lead to an increased risk of heat-related stress and illness. The very young, the elderly, those without air conditioning, and those participating in strenuous outdoor activities will be the most susceptible. Also, car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water. Take frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Heat stroke is an emergency. Call 9 1 1 for anyone showing symptoms. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. This is especially true during hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes. Remember to look before you lock.
