Chance of light snow(updated 2/1/18)

There seems to be a chance for some light snow for parts of Kentucky Monday afternoon into Tuesday morning. Temps look to be in the low to mid-30s for most of the state except for eastern Kentucky where the highs could reach the low 40s. As the temps start to drop, a chance for some light snow could develop. The possible accumulations look to be on the light side. A dusting to around 1" in the Cincinnati/NKY area. One inch may be possible in parts of EKY by Tuesday morning.

As of this morning, the possible snow accumulations tonight look to be very light if any at all. My full attention is not turning to the possible wintry weather for the end of the week. I'll update if the information warrants it.

Most of our local meteorologists have given up on the wintry mix for late Thursday and early Friday except for one. What do you see in far WKY?

It's a little too early to tell but remember the models were showing two systems. One for the period you mentioned then one for later in the weekend. It wouldn't surprise me at all that they turn into one systerm. So I wouldn't give up on the snow just yet. The timing is still up in the air for now. For me anyway. Should start getting some good info by tomorrow afternoon.

There may be some slick spots on the roads in the morning. Most will only see snow showers but some in the heavier squalls could see some light accumulations of around 1" mainly in parts of EKY. Extreme SEKY could see upwards of around 2" by the time the snow ends on Tuesday.

Wednesday morning update. The system coming through on Thursday looks to be more rain than snow. There may be a slight chance of some seeing upward to around 1/2" snow accumulations as the rain transitions over to all snow before ending on Friday. This is mainly from the I-75 corridor eastward. There seem to be some spots that could receive 1" in SEKY and around the Maysville area.

 

 

Those who are looking for some heavier snow accumulations should go ahead and do their snow dance for this weekend! That's where it looks like the action will be. :thumb:

Thursday morning update:

 

This is from the very latest modeling data. As of this morning, the cold air looks to be moving in faster than expected later today. So the precipitation will start out as rain before switching over to all snow and exiting Kentucky on Friday. Accumulations of 1-3 inches can be expected mainly south of I-64 with the heaviest amounts in the higher elevations of SEKY. With the cold air moving in quicker this could make for more snow than expected this weekend. I'll give my first call on this weekend later today.

Thursday evening update.

 

Some in southern Kentucky around the I-75 corridor and southeast Kentucky totals may be higher than this mornings.

 

Somerset is looking at 1-3"

 

Those in and around Middlesboro could receive 3-5" by the time the snow ends on Friday. Most of the accumulations from this system looks like it will be confined south of I-64.
