1. Covington Catholic (16-4) – Covington Catholic had a very successful week, defeating three 9th Region teams. The Colonels defeated Ryle (77-25), Boone County (89-67) and Cooper (47-32). Leading the Colonels for the 20 games is C.J. Fredrick (21.5 ppg), Aiden Ruthsatz (16.1 ppg) and Jake Walter (11.8 ppg). Games coming up: Campbell County ( Jan.23) and Holmes (Jan.26).

2. Cooper (14-5) – Cooper endured a disappointing week, losing twice. The Jaguars have now lost three straight games. Cooper lost to Boone County (65-63) and Covington Catholic (47-32) last week. Leading Cooper through 19 games are Adam Kunkel (20.6 ppg. 6.9 rpg), Chris McNeil (10.7 ppg) and Braydon Runion (9.0 ppg). Games coming up: Conner ( Jan.23) and Ryle ( Jan.26).

3. Boone County (11-8) – Played in twice, beating Cooper (65-63) but losing to Covington Catholic (89-67). Through 19 games Boone County is led by Raymond Rodgers (16.8 ppg), Ethan Haynes (16.5 ppg) and Ethan Robbins(13.8 ppg). Games coming up: Simon Kenton (Jan.23) and Conner (Jan. 26).

4. Beechwood (12-8) – Had a busy and successful week, winning the All “A” Classic for the first time. Beechwood beat Heritage Academy (87-23), St. Henry (68-49) and Newport (54-53). Through 20 games Beechwood is led by Scotty Draud (21.8 ppg) and C.J. Brannen (10.4 ppg) and Ben Toebbe (9.2 ppg). Games coming up: All “A” Classic, Holmes (Jan.23), Lynn Camp (Jan. 25) and Grant County (Jan.27).

5. Newport (15-5) – Played four times during the All “A” Classic. The Wildcats had wins against Bellevue (73-53), Villa Madonna (84-61) and Holy Cross ( 84-66). The Wildcats lost in the championship game to Beechwood (54-53) on a last-second shot. Through 20 games Newport is led by MeKell Burries(22.9 ppg), Tahj Harding (15.4 ppg), Donnie Miller ( 11.1 ppg) and Makhi McGuire(9.7 ppg).

6. Holy Cross (10-8) – The Indians defeated Newport Central Catholic (63-55) and Lloyd (54-40), but lost to Newport (84-66). Through 18 games Holy Cross is led by Parker Zimerman (17.2 ppg), Nolan Schrand (15.4 ppg.) and Jordan Niehaus (12.5 ppg). Games coming up: Lexington Christian (Jan.30) and Conner( Feb.3).

7. Newport Central Catholic (10-8) – Played in the All “A” Classic and lost in first round to Holy Cross (63-55). The ‘Breds bounced back and beat St. Patrick (93-50) and Homes (56-46). Through 18 games Newport Central Catholic is led by Brennan Hall (23.7 ppg), Brendan Luken (12.6 ppg, 8.1 rpg) and Branden Posey (8.1 ppg). Games coming up: Pendleton County (Jan. 25).

8. Dixie Heights (9-10) – The rollercoaster season continues for the Colonels. Dixie beat Conner (59-58) and Highlands (49-47), but lost to Scott (71-68). Through 19 games Dixie Heights is led by Tyler Schreck (13.9 ppg) and Jabari Karim (12.6 ppg). Games coming up: Lloyd (Jan. 23), Grant (Jan. 25) and Eastern (Jan.27). Previous Ranking: 9

 

9. Highlands- (9-9) — Highlands defeated Dayton (75-29) and lost to Dixie (49-47). Through 18 games Highlands is led by Ben Sisson (10.0 ppg). Games coming Up: Newport Central Catholic (Jan. 23) and Bellevue (Jan. 26).

10. Holmes (7-10) – Beat Bishop Brossart (63-51) and Bellevue (49-33), but lost to Newport Central Catholic (56-46). *Stats not available from Previous week: Through 17 games Holmes is led by Kerez Race (15.5 ppg), Jarrod Miller (11.7 ppg) and Donavin Saxon (13.0 ppg). Games coming up: Beechwood (Jan. 23) and Covington Catholic (Jan. 26).

11. Lloyd (7-10) – Lost to Holy Cross ( 54-40). Through 17 games Lloyd is led by Jordan Fann (14.1 ppg) and Jamal Neal (14.7 ppg). Games coming up: Dixie Heights (Jan. 23), Ludlow (Jan. 26) and Gallatian County (Jan. 27).

12. St. Henry (7-9) – St. Henry beat Dayton (76-41) and Ludlow (86-37), but lost to Beechwood (68-49). After 16 games Wyatt Vieth leads the team in scoring (8.6 ppg). Games coming up: Pendleton County (Jan. 23) and Campbell County (Jan.26).

13. Conner (6-14) – Played in two games, beating Ryle (57-46) and losing to Dixie Heights (59-58).Through 20 games Conner is led by Tanner Craddock (10.9 ppg) and Jared Hicks (10.9 ppg). Games coming up: Cooper (Jan. 23) and Boone County ( Jan.26).

14. Ryle (6-12) – After having a strong beginning of the year, Ryle has lost eight straight. Ryle lost to Conner (57-46) and Covington Catholic (77-25).Through 18 games Ryle is led by Vince Rankin (17.6 ppg, 8.2 rpg) and Jacob Tarvin (7.3 ppg). Games coming up: Carroll County ( Jan.24) and Cooper (Jan.26).

Wow - Beechwood up from #8 to #4 in 1 week. Interesting.

Beechwood earned it. They had already beat NewCath, then beat Newport on the Cats home. After the top three, it's a tough call. The people I consult with for the ratings all agreed Beechwood earned No. 4 on the court.
