The Brossart Mustangs emerge from the three-day Mike Swauger Holiday Classic with a pair of wins, a loss, and some valuable experience.

 

The two teams posted 11 point first quarter tallies, with Brossart knocking down three 3-pointers (2-Hamberg, 1 Schumacher). The Mustangs picked it up a bit in the second quarter outscoring the home team 15-6 to take a nine point, 26-17 lead at intermission.

 

Bellevue fought back early in the third stanza, outscoring their NKAC D-II big brothers 8-2 to draw within three points at 28-25. Following a Mike Code timeout, his troops responded by finishing out the period 6-2 to re-gain a 7 point advantage.

 

The Mustangs flexed a little offensive muscle putting up 23 points in the final eight minutes while limiting the Tigers to but 10, making for a 20 point, 57-37 Mustangs victory, closing out the event with a 2-1 record, improving our overall season mark back to .500 at 5-5.

 

Zach Hamberg led all scorers with 19 points including five 3-pointers, J.D. Schumacher added 14 with a trio of long-balls, and Ethan Eilerman netted 12.

 

Bellevue was led by their 6'4" Junior Tommy Ratterman with 16.

Brossart's J.D. Schumacher and Bellevue's Brett Maehren were named to the All-Tournament Team

 

Brossart will await the St. Henry Cursaders who will visit the SyDome in Alexandria on Thursday evening (Dec. 28th).

Bellevue heads to Brooksville after Christmas for an appearance in the Bracken County Holiday Tournament, where they will face the Nicholas County Blue Jackets on Wednesday, December 27th.
