DeSales / South Oldham Updates

Featured Replies

OK, it's basketball, and that means I won't be able to document "play-by-play" like I do during football updates, but I will update from Crestwood at least in between quarters and occasionally during timeouts.

South Oldham won 26 games last year and Steve Simpson has a senior dominated squad (9 seniors) this year. Unfortunately, only two of those seniors played many meaningful minutes last year as Devin Young returns as a starter and Peyton Hicks returns as well. Luke Morrison, a sophomore, is the lone other returning starter.

Gone, of course, is Jo Griffin, now with the University of Louisville, who averaged over 20 ppg last year and won the 8th region player of the year award.

Hicks wasn't expected to play this year, but moved back from Chicago and re-enrolled at South. He may not start for a while, but will give veteran minutes off the bench, and likely will work his way back into the starting role he held last year.

Morrison, a solid all-around performer as a freshman, will be looked upon to be even stronger on the glass and to take on more of a leadership role this year.

Young is an all-region performer and likely will be one of the 8th region's top scorers this year. Perhaps one of the best "catch-and-shoot" guards in the region, Young averaged 16.5 ppg last year and hit 89 threes (45.4%).

DeSales was a solid 6th region performer last year, recording 18 wins before losing to eventual 6th region champ Fern Creek in the first round of the region tournament.

Samuel Weining, a senior shooting forward, is the leading returning scorer for the Colts, after averaging 13.3 ppg and 5.1 rebounds last year while shooting 55.0% from the floor. Big man Travis Seibert, a senior post man, averaged 7.2 ppg and a team high 5.9 rebounds.

South won the last meeting between the two teams, 73-53, in December of 2015.
