Talks about how Brooksville/Bracken County got the name “Polar Bears” in 1926 after winning the regional tournament in 1924 and 1925, and playing in an old tobacco barn.

If one does a little research on Polar Bears you will find them to be powerful, ferocious animals that are carnivors and natural predators of even humans. They have been known to swim exhaustive distances (50+ miles) to where they know there is game waiting for killing and consumption. Most peoples images of Polar Bears could not be further from reality. Pipeliners in Alaska have alarm systems on their work island that sounds alarms whenever a Polar Bear swims ashore. Because of their aggressiveness toward man all workers are strictly restricted to indoors until the Bears vacate. I think the Polar Bear is a wonderful mascot.
