September 20, 20178 yr NASL has sued the governing body of US Soccer under federal antitrust laws. They allege, among other things, that US Soccer has sought to promote MLS and USL at the expense of NASL and that US Soccer's financial interests in MLS have created a warped and anti-competitive marketplace. October 31, 20178 yr Author Hearing on the injunction in this case today. Not looking great for NASL. Came to light that North Carolina FC looking to move to USL at the end of this season. San Francisco Deltas likely to fold unless angel investor comes in. NASL argument focuses on USSF's ties to MLS via Soccer United Marketing venture. USSF's argument centers on notion that NASL being a Div. 3 league doesn't keep them from operating. Judge will issue ruling injunction on whether or not USSF is barred from moving NASL down to Div. 3 Status next season by the end of the week.

November 4, 20178 yr Author Breaking News Saturday morning. Judge declined to grant injunction that would have kept NASL in Div. 2. Case will continue but this is a tough hill to climb now. NASL will be Div. 3 league next season. Means North Carolina FC very likely to leave for USL. Indy Eleven switch to USL very much up in the air as well. San Francisco and Puerto Rico seem likely to lose their teams completely. Edmonton FC has been among the teams said to be discussing a Canadian Premier League that could have 8 teams and start play in 2019. New York Cosmos and Miami FC likely to stick it out if they can. Both heavily involved in separate legal battles against USSF. If NASL busts up, I imagine they might join up with Peter Wilt's NISA initiative that's set to start play in 2018.
